It's the second project based on a mod of an Hammond AO35 Reverb amp chassis that I've tackled. I'm pleased with the way the cabinet and front and real panels turned out so I thought I'd post exterior pics for your viewing pleasure!

Exterior Pics of my latest HRM project
I'm on the home stretch of a customized build for a friend (Yep - his name is Lenny!). He wanted an HRM with no frills - in particular, no foot switch control, no loop and no controls on the back (it's headed for a studio amp rack).

Now about the lettering... I could tell you but then I'd have to kill you! I promised the party who described the process to me to keep it quiet. But the general approach has been kicked around a fair bit on this board, so if you guessed, you'd certainly be close.

Re: Exterior Pics of my latest HRM project
How much of the AO-35 did you use? Trannies? 2-EL84?
I'd love to see any more shots you care to share as I am curious as to how you could stuff all that circuit into that lil' space. Even a shot of the underside (showing tube placements) would be interesting.
Nice work!

Re: Exterior Pics of my latest HRM project
Here's the plan.... High plate values, HRM, Skyliner stack, BM PI, Ultralinear OT with no NFB. I'm faking the 'Presence' with a Vox AC30 style 'Top Cut' circuit. So the power section is a bit of an experiment, but if it doesn't work out, I'll just go back to the 'standard'.stelligan wrote:Very nice indeed! I like the modern look.

First time I've heard that (must be my sheltered existance) - mind if I use that line occassionally?Funkalicousgroove wrote:that's cool as the other side of the pillow!!
I'll post at some point - the boards aren't installed yet due to a slight parts shortage. But I posted some shots of my last A035 conversion on this thread which should give you a good idea how I shoe-horned it all in:Zippy wrote:How much of the AO-35 did you use? Trannies? 2-EL84?

Cool looking amp. That presence knob should work great.
Have fun!

Do you consider the EL84 as incompatible with the D-concept or just have a preference for 6V6s?

While I've heard it said that EL84's don't work that well in D-type amps, my very limited experience with them was inconclusive (one early prototype I did several years before Amp Garage even existed was at least okay). OTOH, I've never done a 6V6 amp before that one, but I'd heard some very nice tones on several D'Lite amp clips that I thought I'd better try one myself... and that Hammond chassis seemed like a great vehicle to do it.
