Swamper Resistors

Post by jonrya91 »

Can anyone explain to me how changing the values of the swamper resistor affects the amp?

Thanks

If you are talking about the input grid resistors for the PA, going larger would normally make the amp a little darker in tone (slight) and it would also make the amp more electrically stable.

Want to see smoke and mirrors, leave them out. :)..

Thanks, I apologize, i should have been more specific...

This is on a D'lite.

I'm talking about the 1.8k resistor across pins five and six of the power tubes.

Thanks!

Do a web search on PI design - those resistors actually can improve PI headroom by limiting the current the output grids try to pull, of course there is a limit to how high you can go without ruining the gain and tone.
F.Y.I. pin 5 is the grid - pin 6 is just a handy tie point, many times it is used as a tie point for screen resistors.

One I had forgot that is the same as Henry is talking about is blocking distortion.
