Anyone consider a Peavey Windsor head as a donor amp?
These things are pretty inexpensive for a 100w 4xEL34 amp, ~$300. I was thinking about getting one, gutting it, just using the cabinet, chassis, transformers for a 100W HRM. Anybody have experience with these? Wondering if the iron is similar to a Fender Twin.

I've thought about it, but I'm concerned about the quality of xformers at that price. Hell, xformers alone can run that much.ontariomaximus wrote:These things are pretty inexpensive for a 100w 4xEL34 amp, ~$300. I'd be interested. I've done 3 transplants on 70's Peavey hybrids and they're all excellent. The latest was a Deuce I built for a friend, 120 watts of amazing tone, can you spell A I R B R A K E??

This intrigues me as well. Reported to come with beefy Chinese Charung Meei trannies and stock tubes are Ruby EL34s and JJ or EH 12AX7s (not bad - probably $75 bucks right just for the tubes). Decent looking cabinet, with a bit of work it looks like it could be modded into something more 'D'-like. I've read the reviews, reliability does NOT seem to be an issue.
My big hitch is the thing is over 29 inches wide... a tad bulbous for a D-clone.
