I want to make it clear to New builders, and people with a general interest in the construction of tube amps, and in particular ODS Style amps that I am glad you are here.
I want to make it clear that i am more than happy to answer any questions regarding tube amps, and I encourage new members and new builders to ask any and all questions about anything and everything they are unclear about.
I want you all to know that it has been a great pleasure helping folks go from newbee to seasoned builder since I've been here (that was day 1 of the Dumble discussion as I recall...).
And mostly I wanted to thank you all for your support, as I have learned as much or more than I have taught in my time here.
If I offended you with my Gear Page question, I am sorry, I just don't want to see something great become something cheap and common.
No offence taken.
I gather you didn`t read my post again and out of sheer frustration(seeing that it was red more then 100 times and nobody took the time to answer it) i deleted it but do you have any thoughts about my question?
Thanks,Ed
No offense take, Funk'. I'm glad to see that you care enough to comment on the issue.
To answer one of your concerns, it might be useful to invoke moderator options to move threads to the appropriate forums, e.g. relocate the "my Walley World amp is the greatest..." from the Dumble Discussion forum to Garage Talk.
Dude, you called a spade a spade. You don't need to apologise. No one can blame you for a bit of frustration.
You do a great job dealing with people and answering questions.
I for one certainly wouldn't have the time or the patience to do what you do.
I try to participate once in a while in here, but thats pretty infrequent these days.
+1 on what Alan said. Man, just look at the number of posts that you have made: it is at 1444 now!
Brandon, thanks for being with us on this great forum.
I would also like to encourage the newbies that want to learn stuff to just ask questions about their amps, design etc. There are no stupid questions and if you ask them, everbody will learn.
No apology needed. This is open discussion at its best. You had a legitimate concern, voiced it and got some good feedback. The thread benefits the whole group and helps refocus the purpose of the forum. Tme for a group hug
Funk, I want you to know I agree with the spirit of what you were saying: more amp talk, less BS that provokes apathy or gear envy at best and nasty arguments at worst. If I had been in your shoes and frustrated I'd have said it the same way. My comments were intended not to say "you're wrong" but to say "yeah I agree but I think we'll be fine.
Unnecessary though it may have been, it was cool of you to apologize. Says a lot about a guy when he's willing to do that.
Thanks for the clarification. I saw the other thread first and just timidly posted there. I'm glad to know this is the place for new builders going to give it a go.
As a TGPer too, I can admit that it would be truly sad to see anything close to the signal-to-noise issues here that exists over there. I can promise I won't have that effect.
The main problem I see over at TGP is that the amount of members might be one issue that results from a wide demographic.
And there seems to be a lot of cork sniffers there with very strong opinions about gear.
If you buy a Bad Monkey pedal for $50 and you post something saying you really like it, you are immediately shot down because you didn't buy a $300 boutique pedal.
But those same expensive pedals soon find there way to the emporium.....
I don't think I have seen one thread over there that doesn't turn into a pissing match or one that involves a tape measure.
I came here to learn and yes my first build was a kit but through that experience and the excellent help I've gotten here I am not too afraid to try a scratch build now.
Now back to the soldering iron!
I dig where funkalicious is coming from. The gear page is populated with guys who are obsessed with the flavour of the day and have an opinion about something they have never seen, let alone played.
Forums are a great place to learn, but getting involved and getting your hands dirty is the only way to know for sure.
This discussion is more suited to builders than guys who rant about stuff because they are bored.
The thing I do like about the gear page is they raise the bar for builders to produce better stuff. If it can raise eyebrows by everyone it has to be a great product. It's just the tire kickers that I can't stand. They read stuff and can't decipher the crap from the truth. It's like trying to decode a cryptic message.Did you bring your decoder ring?
I understand where you are coming from Funk. I do like the gearpage but I like building amps as well. Gearpage is a great place to talk about gear, The Amp Garage is the place to make great gear! I am new here and love this place as it has a wealth of knowlege available and people willing to help out anyone with their projects. I dont post much but I spend hours here reading and learning. I then spend hours with the sloder iron trying out what I have just learned. I am thankful for this forum and all it has to offer.
