Beniot mentioned on the TWreck forum that he's a little tired of just blues over a funky backing . I just recently joined up with these folks here in NJ, this was our second ever gig after very little rehearsal so forgive the clams. I took a feed from the board and ran it into my laptop.
My amp is a 4x6V6 ODS/HRM/D-Lator through a 2x12 with warehousespeakers.com V30 and G12H miked with an SM-58. The first 2 song are using my Epi Sheriton with Jason Loller PU's, the 3rd is using a Tex-Mex Strat.
Nice chops, That speaker combination sounds great. People were talking down the V30's from warehouse speakers a while back. I bought mine from WS for $22, I can't complain. Once they are broken in, they sound pretty good.

Thx. The mike was on the G12H though. I like the overall charactor of that one better miked but the combo is nice too. I'm finding that I like listening to the monitors better so I'm placing my amp where I can't really hear it. Now to get a better bass sound
You Got Reason to be proud Bob, Great rig and setup for " User Friendly "
Was'nt pokin Fun at you on the recording, Most bass player's are hard to record, they all got the Biggest, Baddest amp in the band normally, and don't know what " Turn Down " mean's,
My old bass player in the 70's used a Sunn Collesium amp with both cab's on stage, he could kill Water Buffalo 20 row's out !

Not this guy, he uses an Ampeg V4 that's badly in need of an overhaul. Since he doesn't want to lay money out I'm gonna build him an amp from spare parts. A simple 2x6550 should do the trick, I have the iron, a chassis, tubes and many small parts.
When I played bass in the 60's I used an Ampeg B-15 and a B-18 stacked up. No water buffalo's were harmed but I knocked walls over.
I started my son out on a B-15, Great amp, was a Flip/top with octal pre's,
I sold 2 SVT's about 6 yr's ago when i closed my Shop, I use to keep in touch with Dennis back in those day's, guess he still work's at Jersey Music ?
I've worked on a lot of bass rig's here in So. Tx. and the Ampeg stuff is very popular, On the rack mounted Pre's i've found a lot of guy's liked the 5751 tube, and you should get some good tone with the 6550's,
1 of the SVT's i had ran 6 of them, the other 1 was older, it ran 6 X 7247's i think ?

have you looked at fliptops? they have really good prices on cap sets for those amps - new filter caps and a bias pot would probably make your buddy real happy. v4b is probably my current fav. bass rig - with a good 8x10 its perfect volume for loud rock where an svt would be too loud to turn up and grind like the v4b.

I had one for years, amazing tone monster but not very loud.

Yes, I saw him there about a year ago. I live about 15 miles from that old shop. He's still in the same place, I can't remember how many years but it seems like he was there in the 70's.

actually he uses a plain V4, reverb and all through a 4x12.
I want a bass amp myself so I figure I'll build it and see if he likes it. He's scared to death to let anyone touch that V4.
I am liking that slide sound and the Strat sound which reminds me of the Who! I use a volume pedal too, but in my loop. I use the guitar volume to vary the saturation and the pedal for the actual level. These amps can do it all...

I tried the volume pedal in the loop but it sounded a bit unnatural to me. I didn't like the way it sounded saturated but lower in volume. When I lower the volume I like the way the amp cleans up. Like in "Cold hard bitch" the softer guitar chords on the turnaround are simply done with a lighter touch, no change in the pedal or guitar volume.
