Smallest practical enclosure for a D-Lator
So what do you think the smallest possible enclosure is that I could fit a Dumblator circuit in is? I'd like to build something as small and as portable as possible. Maybe a small Hammond box... something that can just sit on top of whatever amp I am using it with. I don't want it to be so tight that it is hard to fit everything in it though.
Thoughts?

I did one in a 1/4 rack box: https://ampgarage.com/forum/viewtopic.p ... 34#p170734
Re: Smallest practical enclosure for a D-Lator
I think Martin Manning's is the best example I've seen.
Since you mentioned a small Hammond enclosure, I'm pretty sure that's what I used. It worked well and was quiet but I gave it away because I started putting the FX loops on board. IF I had done another one, I would have used automotive spray paint with clear coat over it like I do on my chassis fronts.

Henry Heisthl did one also that was quite small and looked great.

Re: Smallest practical enclosure for a D-Lator
Hmm... those all look great. I like that really small one with the glass and iron on the outside for a neat little "amp-top" package.
I suppose if a small package is the way I want to go, I could just go with a nice and small Kleinulator... what is the consensus here on how it fares vs the tube version? Does it still have the "gain smoothing" effect that the tube one has?

Re: Smallest practical enclosure for a D-Lator
I bought a Ceriatone version of the Klein-u-lator quite a few yrs ago. After about 3-4 hours of using it, I sold it (at a significant loss) and built a tube version. It sounded very solid state and the lacked warmth I was looking for. I thought it muted many of the "tube dynamics" of my amp. It worked. It just did not have the tone I wanted. You know it could have been other factors like my amp, speaker, guitar, playing, etc..... In fact, I thought my delay sounded much better in the passive FX loop then with the solid state Klein-u-lator.

Thanks that's the kind of feedback I was looking for. There was a Ceriatone available locally on Craigslist a couple months ago. I almost went for that one.
I have a PT that will work great for this in a project I built a while back but never really used at all. I'll just have to figure out what to put it in. You know, now that I think of it, it's the MOD Kits Wave Reverb... It would be super simple to convert that to a combo D-Lator/Reverb unit. I could massively simplify the reverb circuit and add the loop... hmmm.... not exactly "amp-top" but it might be a fun exercise nonetheless.

Ceriatone's Klein-u-lator is designed by the original designer not Ceriatone.

you can actually build a Klein-u-lator into a really small box, FX pedal size.

It's great unit but it doesn't add any 'Tube' mojo.

I didn't even think to look at tagboardeffects for that. I've built a number of stuff from that site though. Thanks.norburybrook wrote: ↑Tue Jul 23, 2019 5:45 pmyou can actually build a Klein-u-lator into a really small box, FX pedal size.

So you are with 10, thinking the K-lator doesn't really do everything that the D-lator does? Nice for a SS buffered loop but doesn't impart the "smoothing" effect the D-Lator is known to give a D-style amp?
