Second Dumble #183 build
Is there any information about what parts Dumble preferred to use in his builds, resistors an caps, er
Tc?
Tc?

Re: Second Dumble #183 build
if you look at the layout for #183 you'll see EVERYTHING is listed.
note use of all metal films, 715 orange drops. As I said it's all listed including voltages.

But does it have to vintage parts, and where to get tge Nte stuff?

There is a BOM here: https://ampgarage.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=30151

Re: Second Dumble #183 build
IMHO no, other may say yes
I built one recently and used some funky black Holco resistors for a change https://www.mouser.co.uk/Passive-Compon ... ors&No=150
Made a great sounding amp
Only things i couldn't get was the big axial caps for the man power board so I used Radial ones of the same value.

Good luck with your #183 build! Let us know what all you decide to use and how it comes out.
Sorry I never got around to finishing that BOM I started to put together. Life/work got hectic so I had to step away for amps for a while! that's why I haven't been around here much.
It's a fun circuit to play around with. LOTS of gain. In fact, after finishing mine I found it had a little too much gain for my taste so I added a switchable LNFB on V1B and lowered the bright switch cap values to tame things a bit. I didn't end up using it as much as I thought I would, so I put it up on Reverb for a while. I've taken it down to redoing some of the wiring now and record some demo clips of it and may put it back on there.
I've been focused more on clean stuff lately. I've picked up one of Colgan's Steel String Singer chassis for SSS #002 and hope to start on that soon.

I use Hificollective.com in Uk, they carry man nice resistors. Also Holco.

On this site they say they won't disclose any parts?

you mean that antiqueamp.com one?
As was stated, the amp layouts here show the types of the parts so you can try to find NOS parts, or at least find something of similar quality if you're buying new

Sorry, this fell out. I notice, at the end, that they won't tell about the parts inside of this Dumble.

Re: Second Dumble #183 build
Understood, but again THIS forum (ampgarage.com/forum) DOES tell you about those parts as has been repeatedly said.
I've got a screenshot here of a section of 183. See it saying things liek 6PS on the caps or Piher for resistors etc? The small ground caps for the cathode, listed as ECI, etc.
I guess the only thing there that is a bit unclear are the types of resistors used, they color coded them based upon the type he used, but there doesn't seem to be a legend for what each type is. Maybe someone can confirm where to find that?

Re: Second Dumble #183 build
If you read through the Dumble discussions going back years and years on this site, you’ll see that Dumble’s choice of parts has been fanatically studied and discussed, and also that guys who are interested in using the exact parts Dumble used have been searching out, buying up, and hoarding them, to the point that unless you’re rich, or you inherit an electronics store or TV repair shop which has been padlocked for 30 years, you’re going to be out of luck.

seriously, don't sweat this stuff.
Larry Carlton has sold his Dumble and uses Bludotone amps, that should tell you all you need to know.
if you build #183 with good transformers and voltages near to the layout with 'ANY' decent metal film resistors and the correct Orange drops your amp will sound great.
Put ti this way, it won't be the weak link in your chain

I thought LC still had his Dumble but simply wasn't taking it on the road to play out?Larry Carlton has sold his Dumble

Re: Second Dumble #183 build
I am just a hobby builder, so I take some pleasure in sourcing stuff. Either hiend or the original nos/nib stuff. I build a Marshall Plexi with all the original caps an resistors. When I buildt the Dumble , I tried to find what exact resistors to use, I would have liked to get a more precise list, but I guess that might be wishful thinking. A indicator on how to best do the wiring would also be nice. But the first build sounded great eventually, the second time I might be a bit more forseeing on how to lay out stuff. I build a Soldano Slo from C3-amps, and he had a great pictorial on how to proceed. Made it a lot easier.
