Improved Bootstrapped MV?

Anybody tried the "improved bootstrapped MV" that Kevin O'Conner discusses in Fig 5-13 of his TUT4 book? I was wondering if it worked any better than all of the other MV options. I did a search and have not found any discussion regarding this mod. Thanks,

I have tried it twice in 2 different amps and did not like it at all. The tone controls did not function and it was very mid heavy.
