ODS HRM D'lator Reverb 4x6V6 is born

Post by Bob-I »

Many may remember the layout I posted awhile ago. You guys were no help  there was a missing resistor

I completed this in the chassis I bought from Mission amps, an oversized Deluxe style chassis. The tube chart is..

V1 CL
V2 OD
V3 D'lator
V4 Reverb
V5 PI
V6-V9 output 6V6's

Front is
Input (only one active)
(Bottom) Mid boost
(Top) Bright
Gain
T
M
B
Clean volume
Drive
OD volume
Reverb

Back panel is...
Footswitch
CL/OD
PAB
D'lator send level
D'lator send
D'lator return
D'lator return level
D'lator bypass
Reverb bypass
Presence
Speakers
power/standby
bias test points

Overall the 4x6V6 is more agressive than the 2x6L6 at about the same volume. I'm running a Hammond PT 300-0-300 so the voltages come out a bit lower than most, about 408 on the plates. I haven't tried 2x6L6's or EL-34's yet but I think they should bias just fine. The OT is a Bassman replacement, only 4ohm but it's sounding great into my 8 ohm EVM15L.

The D'lator sounds good with a reverb or delay pedal or rack effect. I've tried an Alesis MidiverbIII and the Boss RV-3, both sound good. A better effect unit would sound better I'm sure.

The one tube reverb was a bit thin sounding until I upped the input cap from 470pF to .001uF, not it's rich and deep. One part I missed on the layout that no one saw was the grid load resistor on the reverb. Odd how the reverb was fine on power up but faded away in about 15 seconds. I beat that up for about 2-3 hours.

Here's some pics and a clip. The clean is GREAT, the OD nice but not perfect. I'm hoping as I get more time on it that the OD will smooth out by itself.

Next, carpenter Bob will go to work on a head cab.

Is it just me or is everyone less than thrilled with the OD channel of their HRMs lately?

Still, it looks great! Hoping you get the OD firing on all 8 cylinders.

Not me :)

Also not all the Carol-Ann amp owners, Glaswerks owners, and Bludotone owners.

Of course, if you want the HRM to get a bad rep that is fine with me. More HRM lovin' for those in the know. LOL

Keep tweaking. It is the bomb....

By no means did I mean to slam HRM in general. It just seems that a few builders to post recently completed projects on this forum, myself included, are been having a bit of a time whipping our projects into tip-top shape. I can see how you mistook my meaning though - came across more 'sweeping' than I meant it to be.

Thx guys. I love the HRM ckt but it's common for these amps to take some time to really open up. I don't know why that is but they simply seem to sound better after 4-5 hours of playing. That means it'll sound better by tomorrow :D

Anyone tried a non HRM and then add a transparent EQ stack?

It's already starting to open up more. A adjusted the HRM stack a bit brighter and it's really coming alive.
