Which delay/verb for using in the Dumblelator loop?

Post by Tonegeek »

I need suggestions on an FX unit that can run in my built in d'lator loop with the least amount of coloration on the main signal while still providing rich delay and verb. If it only does delay, that is fine as that is the effect I use the most.

I went through several pedals after I built my Dumbleator.
I tried the Boss, Digitech, Hardwire, Dan Electro and a few others I can't remember right now.
They all seem to lack something when in the loop.

Finally I bought a TC Electronics G Sharp which is a lower end sound processor from them.
But it is a line level unit.
But I was totally stoked when I got it dialed in.

I use that just for a touch of reverb and delay while I'm playing.
Then if I want a stronger effect I have my pedal board with Tremolo, Fuzz, Wah, Modulation, Chorus and my EHX Stereo Memory Man.

But the TC unit is really what made it sound good because they own reverb.

There are several G type processors from TC up to the newer G Major II.

I think I only paid $125 for my G Sharp.

Don't let that smoke out!

Lexicon MX400, really nice converters and it does not have the boosted upper mids of the TC products. Lots of horsepower too!

Suhr minimix II in the Dlator loop.

Enables you to run any effect in parallel. Hereof, I use cheap eBay boss se50 or se70 and still get top proff sound quality.

For studio work I use the d-lator dry and add effects for the individual song during mixing instead

find a used Rocktron Intellifex or Expression. They have a pure parallel pass through and can be had on the cheap.
Here's one:

I second that! Get a MiniMix, then you can use anything in Parallel with Zero Signal digration or tone loss.

I got my eye's on a Providence Chrono Delay, supposed to be very close to a TC 2290 in a pedal format.

TC M2000 and mxr 1500 or 1000 ms delay I use delays from all 3 units..
The M2000 has 2290 delays M5000 reverbs.

Great units The g force is more user friendly I am told and 1/4 jacks vs xlr...
M2000 requires custom cables xlr to 1/4 for guitar rack efx.

But they are far less then M5000 or 2290..
The dinosaur mxr 1000 or 1500 sound great too..

As suggested, using a Minimix will enable the effect run in parallel in the loop, or maybe you can mod your loop to switchable parallel. Details are in the files.
I have the parallel/series dlator, and although the parallel is very clean it is a bit sterile sounding.

Like Tom, I also have the G# and it is a great cheap unit, the verbs and delay are nice, with a Minimix, it would be perfect :D
