I am still waiting for my box so, Of course I am still tweaking my ODS clone. I am have removed my Deep Switch and R/J switch because they did nothing for me tonally to warrent placement on my amp.
So now I have a bright switch, mid boost (.002 on board 390pf on switch) and Preamp boost. I have on switch to fill any ideas?
Here is what I have been considering:
1. Selectable mid cap. Need to figure out how it will effect the mid boost.
2. Cathode bypass and or resistor switch hybrid values to #124. Anybody try this?
There is a concurrent thread on the boost I am fiddling with right now. I had originally done a boost that completely disconnected the bass pot from the circuit rather than just the wiper. I put it back to the stock position but don't like the new arrangement as much.
What I am going to do next is make that original mod switchable. How this sounds is going to very dependent on which first mid-boost cap. Mine has the .0022/390pf arrangement. Although I haven't played with it yet, I am guessing that bigger is better in this case. There is a parallel mid-boost version in that thread that might work even better if the values were tweaked. It would also be possible to use a DPDT switch with an alternative parallel cap, seasoned to taste. Both of the new switch positions reference ground so it shouldn't need a bleed resistor but one can be added quickly. I should have this done tomorrow night so I'll let you know if it works. In the graphic, black is bone stock, minus the R/J switch. The red is my idea.
As far as other ideas, using a SPDT on-off-on switch you can have alternative mid-boost and bright cap options. I have done some switchable bypass caps in more Marshally builds. Several threads around here have mentioned using larger bypass caps on the clean cathodes and this might be an opportunity. These things are so touchy as far as plate/cathode resistor/caps that it might be more trouble than it is worth. That and the proximity isn't as good as tying front panel switches to the tone stack.

I realize that you've got some holes to plug, but I'm finding I don't like the switches at all on my Bassman HRM. I stripped out everything except the PAB and the tone really opened up. The only thing I may add back in is a bright switch. The amp sounds perfect to me with my Strat but could use a little more top end with my hollow body.
I think your right, and that is the way I am leaning. I think the extra wire and more importantly my lead dress deteriated the tone to a certain extent.
I am not selling any of my amps so I might just leave the hole fo a while.
I am going to wire in the Ford Mod (330 or 470 ohm resister, I have both) today.
