Latest HRM Build Finished - Some Pics etc

Post by '67_Plexi »

Thanks to Bob-I for his great main board layout. Thanks to Dogears for his tweak suggestions. This amp sounds unreal and is dead silent, I've even got absolutely no relay pops or clicks.
I'll post some sound clips as soon as I can record some.

Alan.

What does filter do???

Also, do you have a bright cap on the clean master??

Filter..., that's yours bro !!

It's a 250k pot with a 0.02 cap off the second OD stage plate. I know you like a 0.01 and I do to, but 0.02 gives it more range and it acts like a Vox 'cut' control on the OD. I hate not having any kind of tone compensation on the lead channel. Oh, I automatically switch in PAB when the lead channel is selected. Both relay coils are in parallel.

I have the presets set at T=4, M=6, B=5 on the OD channel. That seems to work well.

Clean master has 20pF. OD Master has none.

I'm using this with a Dumbleator style efx interface. Whats the deal with the 100K resistor you see in series with the 'preamp out of some of the drawings. I can't see a need for this. Any thoughts ?

Preamp Volume has a 120pF, but I think it will end up being replaced with a 47pF.

Just as a side note, this is the quiestest (background noise, hum etc) amp I've ever played in my life. And given the fact I am an amp tech full time that's saying something. I got the lead dress and the grounding scheme perfect. A bit of design, a bit of thanks to Ayan for posting those pics and a bit of pure old fashioned good luck !

Yes you made a great job of the layouts. It saved me a lot of time. I do have an ultra-quiet layout for the HRM relays that I will share, but as Dogears always says you have to follow it exactly to get the results. I also intend to make a grounding diagram because it is the best I've ever experienced. I beleive from the photos etc that it is pretty much identical to what Dumble used in the later amps. I think these drawings may help a few folks with two commonly found HRM issues.

Bob, did you notice I shrunk the board to make it exacxtly the same size as the one in the gooped HRM photo. It was a bit of a squeeze in places.

Very very nice construction. LOVE those BLUE boards :D.

Nice cabinetry as well. I am building a couple of suede covered amps in the current build of amps. One will be a head and 2x12 in blue suede with gold trim and a combo is pumpkin suede with black trim.

Great Job!!

I noticed it was a tight fit, I just assumed it was the Orange drops instead of the xicon's.

Personally I'm not so into the Dumble appearance as much as the sound, but you nailed both with this one.
