I've searched for the past 30 minutes, too many hits to sort through.
My 3 channel amp came back from a jam via UPS in pretty sad shape. The chassis was bent and both power tubes had the keys broken off, plus the screen resistor on one socket broken. The PI trimpot was also broken and one 12AX7 dead.
So after searching through all my parts I only 1K 2W's to replace the screens. My orignals were 470ohm. I replaced both.
My question is about the sound of changing the screen resistor. If memory serves me right, the sound is now more .... hmmm... buzzy and scooped than before. I don't have the 470s to compare but what's everyone's experience with this?

Re; returned amp
Holly Cow Bob-I, I don't think I'd be letting my stuff out again if its being returned like that! What happened to respecting someones equipment?
sorry to hear that.
sorry to hear that.
Re: Screen resistors .... again
I find a slightly fuller and tighter bottom with 470 ohm. The 1k has more "feel" and slight compression. Maybe a tad looser and saggy. Fwiw, I use both but lately have been preferring 470 ohm in my 6L6 amps. The 1k works well if you use 30uf on the screens and a 500ohm choke replacement. I'd use a 470ohm with the 20uf standard screens.

Re: Screen resistors .... again
No loss, everything's fine now. The chassis is soft aluminum from Kombong, too soft but I was able to straighten it out. The tubes are fine, and I think the 12AX7 died at the jam, somone else reported that the Fender channel was really weak.skyboltone wrote:Likewise very sorry about your loss Bob. Wow.
Yep, just placed an mouser order. Why is it I decide to order 2 parts and somehow the order turns into $100And gosh darnit Scott, everytime I read one of your posts I gotta order more parts.![]()

just like going to the grocery store with my wife. They say you should eat before going to the grocery store... same thing doesn't work at the liquor store.

Yes, that's what I'm hearing!! I don't like it as much, I like the tighter bottom end.dogears wrote:I find a slightly fuller and tighter bottom with 470 ohm. The 1k has more "feel" and slight compression. Maybe a tad looser and saggy.
Yep, 20uF screens and a choke. Maybe I should try a 30uF first, some experimentation might be fun.Fwiw, I use both but lately have been preferring 470 ohm in my 6L6 amps. The 1k works well if you use 30uf on the screens and a 500ohm choke replacement. I'd use a 470ohm with the 20uf standard screens.
