300mfd @300vdc...........source?
I'm parting up for a 124 build. Does anyone have a source for the 300mfd @ 300vdc filter caps?
Before I get too far are there any other hard to find parts in this one?
Thanks
Eric

Eric, I have sprague powerlytic 36dx 320uf@350vdc made in USA
all test 100% computer buss screw terminal not axal.
will work fine on a classic power supply, On a Precision power supply you wound have to mount on the chassis.
1.5" Dia. 3.25" long 1.5" wide.
Steve.

Re: 300mfd @300vdc...........source?
Correct me if i'm wrong but I think most people are happy with about 200uF. These are much easier to come by and still offer plenty of filtering.
Re: 300mfd @300vdc...........source?
220uF @ 300V is more the standard size for 100W amps. Shouldn't have any trouble finding these - tubesandmore.com has some choices.

Steve (67plexi) sent me some of those Sprague's 320's I recently installed in a 100w personal build.. Amp turned out great no complaints ... I recommend them... Thanks Steve..BTW.. 124 has 300uf similar caps

True.... but probably not necessary IMHO.talbany wrote:STW.. 124 has 300uf similar caps

Actually radial 300uf 350v was on the original before recapping (to what??).
Most of the pictures I have of amps from that era had those same big caps.
I used some 290uf 350v like these: http://www.tedss.com/item.asp?id=2020003615

I was able to get a couple of the Sprague capacitors from Steve as well.
These are very high quality Sprague Powerlytic 36DX caps.
I don't know if they are military grade but you can tell by looking at the terminal end and how the vent and terminals are configured that it is a very good piece.
So two of them in series might be just a bit higher than ideal but I think they will work great.
I don't care for flabby bass so these may be the ticket.
I would bet that some of the other caps used on the plates have a wide range of tolerance and you might not end up with what you thought it should be there anyway.
I can't wait to get these installed.

Thanks to all those who have chimed in. I decided to pick up a set from Steve, nice guy to do business with.
While they may be over kill they're period correct!

While we're discussing 124 parts, I called Radio Shack yesterday looking for the filament transformer and they said they don't carry that anymore.
Even though a few stores outside my area show it in stock.
I may just have to order it.
But what I was wondering is what are the specs on that transformer?
On the #124 layout it is shown as a 3-0-3 450ma transformer.
But a 12v regulator is shown as well as 12v relays.
So is this a voltage doubler circuit?
Other schematics show a 12v transformer with a 12v regulator and relays.
If I were to source a 5v or 12v transformer and use the right voltage regulator and relays, that should be OK right?

I was able to get some of the Radio Shacks 6v a few months ago but only through the mail order.

Its hit or miss, one Radio Shack did not have any in stock but a few miles away at the mall that store had 3 so I bought all of them.

Hey Tom,
Looks like you can get them online from Radio Shack.
