The thing is the build looks so MESSY! What say you fraud or real deal?
Take care,
Hale
Looks like any 70's era Fender amp....their lead dress was a mess, which is why they 'invented' the wrapping grid wires with wires connected to plate! in order to cut down on occilation.
This amp has been listed on eBay 2-3 times before, I don't think it's ever sold. I have a early K & M modded bassman (which sounds great) and it has the same relay boards in it and this twin. Happy to say that mine's A LOT cleaner that this one but it was a black face to start and there's a lot less going on under the hood than the twin.
I'd say it the real deal, a K & M modded twin.
Both K & M and Fuchs did Fender mods in their early days. (Fuchs were alway prettier)
I think Andy still does mods on a variety of amps IIRC. I have also seen this amp on the bay and CL multiple times as well. If it sounds good, who cares what the guts look like

I talked with this guy a few times. He claims it was built for someone famous (some artist who's name escapes me), and is indeed am unmolested TR build. I offer to buy it to remod it for a customer, but he declined my offer.
He's spent a boatload on listing fees, and has also posted it on Craigs. Pretty scary in there for sure...
About ten years ago I passed up a K&M black face bandmaster converted into a 2-10 combo, it was a really nice sounding amp. The guy wanted $750 for it or the same for a new '63 vibroverb reissue. It was a really hard decision but I ended up going with the vibroverb (played them side by side for a few hours).
If it's really a "prototype" it probably sounds pretty good, if it's it's just a mod bill did for a guy when he was servicing amps in Cotati, it could sound like anything...
Yes most of the silverface Fender amps look like a birds nest.
I don't know what happened when CBS bought them out but there was a definite change in the lead dress.
Maybe they hired all new workers that assembled them, not sure.
They must have gotten a good deal on wire because they certainly used a lot in these amps.
The lead dress is terrible on most silverfaces.
What in the world is that thing with the masking tape around it?

The presence of the Two Rock relay PC board tells me it's more of a recent build. The fact he sends links to Mayer soundclips, means he either has no way to record clips, or maybe he'd prefer you didn't hear 'em...lol.
