Re: Two rock custom reverb sig sounds and guts
Did you look under the OD network board? Sorry if I missed the pic. This is probably the single most important change to the architecture that I have seen in the TR amps. Usually a 220K into a 25K trim with a 24K tail to ground.
Re: Two rock custom reverb sig sounds and guts
One other tip. Please note the 2X22M resistors paralled at the effects loop. This is the LNFB on the gain side. The real Dumble loops have 22M feedback. TR used 11M. This extra NFB dampens things and compresses things. You can try it their way but I'd also suggest trying the stock way of 22M.
True story, I was in LA and a sessionguy I know had one of these. He was always complaining about lack of sustain and openness. We opened it and I snipped one of these resistors out. The amp immediately woke up, lots of sustain and feedback, and was very nice for all of us present. Normster was there and witnessed the event. The session guy was very happy..... I thought the amp went from blah to alive with this simple mod.
Took place at Billy Yates studio. He was there too....

Hey Paisley,
A couple years ago I would have donated a part of my anatomy for a glimpse of the TR Custom Reverb.
I understand a lot more about what goes on inside now so I'm pretty happy with my amp that I built.
Sure a built in buffered loop and reverb would be a nice bonus but since I built a D'lator and have reverb FX, that isn't a real necessity anymore.
It is comforting to me to see that Two Rock uses the same middle of the road components that most of us do.
I was surprised at the mis matched power tube sockets, grid stoppers and screen resistors.
So they just throw in what they have on hand?
Or, maybe this amp blew up and was repaired by another shop.
What blows me away is that they get $5,000 for the new 50w Custom Reverb Sig V3!!!
$5K for a 50w amp!
Hey I know these amps are labor intensive but wow!

Hey Tom,
This is the one and only TR Sig I have seen that has mismatched sockets. The detailed shots I have seen of others, as well as the one I tweaked, had same sockets and values....

Re: Two rock custom reverb sig sounds and guts
So perhaps it was repaired by someone and they didn't have the same brand parts.
Maybe it blew a power tube/ resistors and the socket had a carbon track.
It does seem strange that a company like TR would not match those parts.
Probably a simple explanation.

Re: Two rock custom reverb sig sounds and guts
I know most here don't care for TR, but here's a gut shot of my Classic Type 3. I think it's built pretty well...and the sockets match.
That said, the build quality pales in comparison to something Jelle, or others I've seen here put together.

Re: Two rock custom reverb sig sounds and guts
Can anyone comment on why they only used half of the reverb driver? I assume that's an AT7? How does the reverb sound on it?

My only objection is the price they get for them.
More power to them.
I wish somebody would pay me $4,000 labor to build one.

PT and OT both look like EIA code 166=Magnetic Components. Those 40-XXXXX part nos. are a giveaway too. Choke is 989=Heyboer.
