Thanks NickC! :D

Here's a clip that I think does a pretty good job of capturing the sound of the lead channel. I followed Reeltarded's advice on mic placement and it seemed to help a lot. I also switched over to my Les Paul for this one.

https://soundcloud.com/aflynt/dhumba-blues

Clip Details
'77 Les Paul Pro bridge P90 into Sonorous Sublime amp with MXR Carbon Copy in the loop set for a slapback echo, volume: 6 3/4, treble: 5, mid: 6, bass: 2 1/2, drive: 4, level: 3, master (loop return): 2 1/2, presence: 5, reverb: 4, bright: off, mid: off, rock: on, pab: off, send (loop send): 4, into 2 Celestion G12-65s close miked with an e906 and SM57 into a Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 interface with the mics panned -32 / +32. I'm just playing the lead. The rest is from a backing track.

Wow! I thoroughly enjoyed that clip!

I'm currently starting my SF Twin Reverb rebuild to 102 specs.
If I can get close to your tone, I will consider it successful.

Thanks for posting....post some more!

Yes, enjoyed that a lot.
You don't mention using delay, yet I seem to hear a short one?

Thanks! Good ear. I forgot to note that I'm using an MXR carbon copy in the loop on that recording also.

Aaron, that is a beautiful build, and your clips and playing are just superb. If mine comes out half as good, I will be thrilled. So many on this forum have been helpful to me, so together with thanking you for sharing your efforts (thank you!), I'd like to thank the others as well. What an amazing forum. Thanks! The level of sharing and kind professionalism is truly inspiring.

Glad you're enjoying them alvarezh! Drive safely. :)

Here's an iPhone recording from our job last night. I'm overplaying a bit and after 30 years I still can't seem to play through the changes, but I think it gives an idea of some of the nicer qualities of the amp. As it burns in more it's turning out to be a very special sounding build.

https://soundcloud.com/aflynt/trufate-b ... on-grill-3

Clip Details
Strat with Lollar Specials and passive mid boost into Sonorous Sublime amp, volume: 6 3/4, treble: 5, mid: 6, bass: 2, drive: 4, od level: 2 1/2, master (loop return): 4, presence: 5, reverb: 4, loop send: 4, bright: off, mid: off, rock: on, through 2 Celestion G12-65 loaded Forte 3D1x12 cabs. There was a Visual Volume pedal and MXR Carbon copy in the loop set for a short slap with the modulation on. The clean parts are with the strat bridge and neck pickups (tele style) and PAB Off, the lead overdrive parts are the bridge pickup with the PAB kicked in here and there on the screaming feedbacky stuff. The mid boost on the guitar is on throughout the song. The iPhone was just sitting on my amp head so the guitar sound is slightly duller than it was out front and also much louder relative to the other instruments.

I also checked out your Band site. Very well done. Your bands choice in musical style resembles the band I'm in.
I always love when someone uses an ODS for classic rock!

Thanks! My #102 inspired builds work great for Classic Rock stuff. They're not just all smooth Jazz and Robben Ford. You really get out of them what you put in. They can definitely crunch too, especially if you hit the PAB. The only other D-Style amp I've ever played was a Fuchs ODS mod I biased for a friend, but I felt right at home with it sonically too and I'm guessing that similar characteristics run through most of the amps with similar DNA. I never use pedals for gain anymore since I find that by changing up technique, the controls on the guitar, and the OD/PAB switches I can get any sound I need.

Last week I tried some EL34s in this build and was getting some great metal tones out of it too with the PAB. They really tightened up the low end and evened out the upper mids in a way that works for 80's hair music, not that I'm all that great at playing that stuff. With the Mercury Magnetics Tweed Twin OT, this thing has somewhat ridiculous low end even with the 6L6s, though. I have yet to get the bass control above 3 in a live situation. I'm guessing it will kill at open air events.

Great Flynt, saw your site too, I like it.

How about a request? Your fusion take on Evil Ways, with your #102 D', of course! Probably too much to ask as I don't think you'll find a backing track.

Would love to see you guys live but, your place is too cold for, and too far away from me.

Goof stuff going Aaron, hope you guys head east (south east?) into Manhattan soon and make it big time.

All the best
Horacio

The amp sounds great!! I like how smooth it is across the range. Not dull, not mute, but smooth! Very cool!
