I'm surprised more of you guys don't use polystyrenes. I avoid ceramic and mica if I can because I think the polystyrene caps have the least coloration of any cap technology aside from Teflon. Any cap that is good enough for RF VCO's and sample and holds is good enough for my amps!

I have a large range of values, all 500-600V caps, starting at 10pF and moving up through 4300pF (.0043uF). A lot of them are values like 180p, 270p, 360p, etc though so I usually end up paralleling two together to get ~500pF or ~4700pF. Some may not like doing this but it hasn't caused a single problem.

Polystyrenes do thump if you put them early in a circuit, but I've never had one actually be microphonic enough to cause problems. I have however had mica and ceramics that were uselessly microphonic..

The Ceramics have a certian Kerrang!! about them.. Need a little more hair in that top end pop in a ceramic..They were/are a large part of the Fender/Marshall vibe IMO..:D ..Sometimes the best componets (electrically speaking) dont always fit in your ear..Not really aiming this post at anyone here just saying.. :D

Martin I put a switch on the local NFB on V1.

I prefer it off. So before you drill a hole for a switch, try it out, you may prefer it without it as well.

I'm with Tom:
I really like 'styrenes instead of mica and ceramic caps, but I play Tele's. I also have a 3 position switch on the LNF: off/20meg/40meg.

Merry Christmas!

I use a similar setup for the LNF. I don't remember if mine is 20/off/40 or 10/off/20, though.
Wife: How many amps do you need?
Me: Just one more...
