Re: Manzamp!
Again, a big thanks to Taylor at Amplified Nation. It really was great to be able to find a cabinet builder with a passion for Dumble amplifiers. Good work!

So IC- Here's the big question.. Was it in the end all worth it for you? (All Dumble hype aside..ic-racer wrote:Again, a big thanks to Taylor at Amplified Nation. It really was great to be able to find a cabinet builder with a passion for Dumble amplifiers. Good work!
Got an SSS cab (red suede) on the way!!
Thanks in advance!!

He's in a class by himself when it comes to reproductions. I can't say anything that hadn't already been said.
Well done as usual!

Re: Manzamp!
Exceptional! Let's hear it with those speakers and new cab.
Re: Manzamp!
So it has been almost two days since I hooked up the speakers and my jaw is still hanging down. I have tried to refrain from making those initial "this is the best amp ever" statements that I know originate from one's sense of excitement when a project comes to completion. But, these are my thoughts:talbany wrote:So IC- Here's the big question.. Was it in the end all worth it for you? (All Dumble hype aside..ic-racer wrote:Again, a big thanks to Taylor at Amplified Nation. It really was great to be able to find a cabinet builder with a passion for Dumble amplifiers. Good work!)..Would you recommed others go through the time and expence of building one of these amps and if so which players would best benefit from it (Blues, players, good pedal platform, etc etc..) in your honest opinion of coarse?..
1) I am amazed the build went so well. Not often an amp sounds so good right from the start. A stark comparison to my first version of #124 that was a buzzy disappointment the first day I fired it up.
2) To think anyone could even make a working amp from a picture, let alone a great sounding amp seems impossible, even to me. But when you break it down to the individual steps the project does seem do-able. For example, the second picture showing the control layout seems at first to contribute almost nothing, but knowing the order and name of each control was essential in decoding the wiring in the picture.
3) Knowing, or at least presuming, the Manzamp to be based on a Bassman circuit is the key ingredient. From there we add in Precision power supply and Skyliner tone and that is most of the circuit. Almost alll the observable components in the picture match up exactly to that scheme. There are no observable components left for any other common Dumble circuits (ie no distortion circuit).
4) This amp sounds unique to me. I don't have anything else like it. Imagine a Bassman that sings rather than distorts. Imagine a tight high-headroom Bassman with a Skyliner tone stack that sounds like the "Deep" switch is engaged. There are scooped mids with tight bass and chime-like high end. Crank it up and it has a controlled rich non-buzzy distortion.
The feel of playing it is kind of like playing through a compressor. The volume of notes across the fingerboard is controlled. There are no 'ice-pick' notes.
5) Was it worth it to me? Most certainly yes! I do this just for the fun of it. I have a good day job and could afford some nice amps from any of you builders here, but for me that's not the point. I just like the challenge of the project and excitement building stuff like this.
6) Certainly someone else should build this to hear for themselves. You can probably do it on a eyelet board. Very little risk, because if you don't like it you can make a standard tweed bassman with the parts.
7) I don't think it needs the special cabinet and speakers to get the sound. My first posted youtube examples of this amp were through a ported 1x12 with EVM 12-S and I think it could be built as a head and run through a Dumble style cabinet like that and still sound good.

Re: Manzamp!
Thanks for the rundown!!
Sure we all love to build amps for ourselves..It's even better when we do one that we actually use and fit's in the toolbox well..I know I was guilty at one point where someone decoded a Dumble amp and for this alone I had to build one only to later find out that although the amp sounded amazing it didn't fit well from a practical stand point or with certain styles I was playing (I am a working guitarist) so it's good to get some sense of what the amp is like and how it performs where it shines and where it doesn't before we start throwing money out for parts.. I had the initial response with my first ODS as you and even though I love my SSS I generally find it a one trick pony that in most cases doesn't work for most clubs and most styles, (it's a pedal amp)
For me the SSS was worth it as a wonderful sounding amp but as a working guitar player was unfortunately not, same with my Express and the Dumble high gain modded Marshall.
As a working guitar player... Thanks for your thought's..It helps

Audio/You Tube clips are surely next?
Yeah, a few glory shots along with a recording would be great.
I think I posted notes on the Hotel Hog somewhere. See if it looks the same to you?

Ic-racer,
THANKS for sharing your success and offering your reflective thoughts on the build and the tone! Very cool.
I think it's an amazing amp & I sure liked the sound clips a lot. Hope to hear some more of them. Still love this one:
