Looks to be SVT transformers in this 300SL. Heyboer makes repros and I have seen those being offered at Fliptops and Mojotone.
I will do a 400W version at some point with vintage 400PS iron. Have fun!! Jelle

In the link I posted, apparently the new owner has been offered 1.3 million for Greenie and turned it down.

Hi,LeftyStrat wrote:I agree Tony. KOC in TUT 3 talks about why a 100 watt Marshall sounds different than a 50 watt, but he attributes it to the difference between 2 tubes and 4 tubes, but I think there is more to it that that. I think the bass reproduction is going always be better with a high wattage amp, regardless of the volume.

KOC goes into the difference in detail in TUT 3, (NFB resistor, PSUP Caps, etc). The transconductance of two tubes opposed four tubes (two parallel tubes as a composite tube) was expanded on in TUT 4, the GMX chapter using a single tube for tone and MOSFETS to supply either the tonal changes (of the additional tubes) or the extra power. I remember prior TUT 4 released KOC talked on this in several online forums. I wasn't into Randall bass amps but wondered on the connection when I heard of the 12ax7 tubes (for tone in the power amp) being pushed by solid state.
KOC's point of the chapter was how to get the tone of a higher power amp by using 4 tubes, a switchable NFB, etc, and being able to pull two of the tubes to get the "50W" sound.
As to better bass in a higher Watt power amp, Marshall uses undersized (compared to Hi-Fi) OT in the lower power 50W (read as 35 Watt) amps. Substitute a larger (full bandwidth) transformer such as a Hammond or an Edcor USA, or a Toroidal OT, and bass increases. The "Grandma's Chocolate Amp"and commented on by the Tone-Lizard.com was a 50 watt amp by Marshall that had a larger than normal OT.
I am of the opinion that the power supply Caps value make for the difference, too.
Best regards,
Steve

Thanks Steve. I need to pick up TUT4. The GMX circuit is certainly intriguing.
