IMO the most difficult problems to diagnose over the internet are?
"The amp has a hum" or "The amp sounds harsh?"
Could be something obvious (in your case) or something not so obvious (layout,grounds,magnetic coupling)
These sort of problems can be difficult enough to find with the amp in front of you!

Just saw this thread and went through every single message your hum-hunt was better than Netflix tonight, glad you got it resolve!
