the black marker says - outer foil to me!
Don't touch it if it's hot!

Hello,
Does anyone know what make the resistors are used on the main amplifier board?

Isn't NTE a rebranding distributer?
In other words, those could be Xicon metal film resistors but marketed by NTE.

Re: Two rock custom reverb sig sounds and guts
I have wondered who makes these too...
Re: Two rock custom reverb sig sounds and guts
Yes Tom NTE is a reseller, but those are not Xicon resistors either. My local shop stocks NTE and majority of the newer 1/8 thru 1/2W and some 1W resistors looks like these, which I believe are a Vishay/Dale type. Now which particular part series I can't tell anyone, but if you go to a NTE dealer you can grab the exact same type off the shelf.Structo wrote:Isn't NTE a rebranding distributer?

I gone through my local shop and I culled all the (Phillips, RCA, Corning, Sylvania, Dale) NTE resistor types/values that are found in Dumble builds

Re: Two rock custom reverb sig sounds and guts
they aren't from the vishay/dale line.
they are most likely vishay/bc.

These are quite an old type, we used these at GEC in England back in the early 80's but cant remember the make. I do remember that they are metal oxide.
Re: Two rock custom reverb sig sounds and guts
They are also current as well, packaging is marked lead free.lovetone wrote:These are quite an old type, we used these at GEC in England back in the early 80's but cant remember the make. I do remember that they are metal oxide.

Yes, and one can build a great sounding amp with those. I recall nte selling these as metal films.

the duller grey ones are oxides on the power board.
the shiny blue ones are metal film on the main amp board.

What type/brand are these resistors on the main board?

Forgot the brand maybe philips and don't think they are made anymore. Soldano used to use them MF 2%

jeez what a craptactular selection.Frostbite Slim wrote:What type/brand are these resistors on the main board?
hard to tell without a closer picture.
if they've been using the philips in the other amp...
then the mayer has philips carbon film.
they'd be vishay/bc now if they are still made.
Re: Two rock custom reverb sig sounds and guts
John they look similar to the Phillips, but have a slightly more pronouned humped endcap with soldered leads. They remind me of something closer to a Draloric in body style. I have some Phillips 1W CF's , but I don't recall the tolerance band sitting on the endcap and the exposed soldered endcap leads. I'll have to pull them out and compare them.husky wrote:On the main board 2rocklovetone wrote:Hello,

My thoughts are either they are no longer in production or a special run. They are definitely not the current Vishay LCA series, because they look closer to the Phillips(Made in Holland)resistors from the 70-80's.
