So... what are you saying, that your board will only fit your chassis? I'm sure I could make that board fit in any chassis. Would it make you feel better if he had to redrill new holes in order to mount your board in his chassis? I'm not trying to be a wiseguy here, just trying to understand what the problem is. Please explain. :?: :)

I have two of these chassis and I am looking for boards but it seems that I will have build them myself. Not to be a smart ass myself, I would love to buy a set of boards rather then make them all.

The builders of these chassis have made no reference to which boards other than from some other individuals that have been making their own or had PCB express make them.

Hopefully this helps somewhat, hole spacing I have no idea if they are the same as your chassis.

Where did the chassis dims of these chassis come from?

This is what I found in the 'testing the waters' thread;
The chassis would be generally similar to what Funk was selling before he became famous  - 1/8" aluminum, welded corners, black satin finish powder coat and silk screened panel labels. We're also planning on a few enhancements - PEM nuts for mounting screws, rear panel IEC power connector cutout, 'D' holes for bias test points and the elimination of the ground polarity switch hole.
I can imagine that the first sentence is disturbing. What happened?

Brian and Mark were pretty upfront about this from the start.

In the end Brian and Funk are both copying HAD, I don't see the big deal.

I do not understand this. My understanding is this:

First we have Funk offering a run of chassis for the DIY community.
Then he decides not to offer additional runs and instead use these for his product line.

Then I'm lost: When was green light given to use his chassis as a source for information for new chassis runs produced by other people?

Thanks,

Jelle

My chassis is not exact to HAD's chassis, My boards are quite a bit larger.

What I am seeing here is that someone took one of My chassis that I did all the R&D, revisions, etc to a metal shop and said here copy this.

I have an issue with that, since this place would scarceley exist if it wasn't for my contribution.

I would like to ask that the sellers of this chassis revise it such that it is not so similar to mine, as mine is different enough from Dumble (board sizes, hole spacing, etc) that it is not exact, and can not be confused with one that is.

I put a lot of effort in designing my own chassis as I would feel awkward to use drawings from people who did not want to give them to me. Frankly I never asked for the drawings as I wanted to do things a little differently. But it appears that in this case Funk was never asked either.

Double standard towards HAD? Yes, absolutely. But as members of this forum I feel that we need to respect eachother here and especially the people who have contributed a lot to this community.

I hope this is all a big misunderstanding.

Thanks,

Jelle,

I think the confusion probably revolves around what properly constitutes "proprietary" design in something like an amp chassis. Is it the placement of the holes, the size of the holes, the text, something else...or the combination of all of the above? It's not like the basic blueprint for an amp chassis hasn't been around awhile.

If this were indeed an exact duplicate of a unique and proprietary Funk design, it might be taken as at least discourteous to not give Funk the nod he deserved for whatever innovations made his chassis great. I for one appreciated his offer of chassis some time ago, and kick myself for not getting one myself.

If both Funk's and this new chassis are basically like any number of other chassis in form and function, it doesn't seem to me like there's much to protect. And I doubt that Brian, Mark et al. intended to step on Brandon's toes.

When did anyone on this forum ask Dumble if they could clone his amps?

Then why not clone the Dumble Chassis? Why clone Mine?

Hi Funk, are you objecting to the physical dimensions, hole spacing etc of the chassis or the construction technique?, ie the corners being welded, a good idea making the chassis stronger, but still a common welding fabricating practice.

Since you aren't making chassis available, no money was taken from your pocket and the chassis's were sold for a reasonable price. I hope they made a few dollars for their time.

I don't have either chassis to compare, so I can't say if they are identical or not. Still, the wheel hasn't been reinvented here, it's just a chassis. I would like one with the power and standby in front. If someone can build one for a reasonable price, I might be in for a couple.

Just trying to understand you're point, take care.

The issue is the hole spacing, the example was built using a set of my boards that dropped right in

Change that and I have no issue, simple as that. My boards are different from Dumble's, my board placement is different from dumble's. The chassis for sale here has spacing for my boards, in the same locations.

My transformers are placed different from dumble's, the chassis for sale has the transformers in the same place as mine.

Both of the people who made these chassis purchased chassis from me in the past, and I know that they just took my chassis to a metal shop and said "here copy this" because it still has the Double D for the power cable, and some holes that Odourboy didn't use in his example build that are in My chassis.

I'm all for a quality chassis being available, i only quit selling mine because of time constraints and the fact that I don't want folks building amps in my chassis commercially.

I simply take issue with my layout being used verbatum.
