Really, you can do these for under $3K? How?? :D

with all the NOS parts that are required to make one of these they are a gift at $3K!! :lol:

Hey remember, I live in the silicon desert, and have access to some of the finest and dustiest scrap houses in the US. They can supply all kinds of old crappy parts :). I found a box of the old yellow mallory electrolytics a few months ago. All the right values, HAD would have smiled.

But seriously why would anyone design a new product and use parts that are

1. Not ROHS compliant
2. Not in current production

I really don't know- I get asked all the time if I can build amps with "NOS" parts and I'm like "Why??????"

ROHS only matters if it's going to the EU and they need to bear the CE mark to be sold in the EU anyway- I'll stick to my lead solder for US stuff till they tell me I can't anymore.

I betcha California willbe the first RoHS state. They already have it for some items.
