Tweed tones with a D-tone spin

Re: Tweed tones with a D-tone spin
I'm curious to learn what version of "tweed tone" is emulated in this circuit? What tone circuit is employed? Most of my favorite tweed circuits have at least two tone knobs.
Re: Tweed tones with a D-tone spin
It is similiar to a tweed deluxe, which tweed preamps do you like?

My fav' is the 5F4 Super. Second up is the "modern" stack, ala 5F6-A, behind a cathode follower.
Re: Tweed tones with a D-tone spin
I'm still fascinated with the concept of this amp.
Stelligan, do you find the tweed>>OD a combination that you can use or do you run the tweed channel clean and use the normal channel into the OD?
My gut feeling is that the OD wouldn't behave as nicely for one channel if optimized for the other.
Given the variety that we have at hand (non-HRM, HRM, Bluesmaster), I'm wondering if tweed-ODS is the next voice to chase? If so, which tweed?
Yes, I'm a sucker for tweed amps.
Thanks.

Sorry for the delay in responding. Yes, the tweed I use into the OD. Sounds rather Marshally and really shines with a Stratocaster. To the second point - It is best to optimize the front panel for one front end or the other before the tune - that is easily achieved with two knob twists. I have found a nice setting with the amp where the cleans on both front ends sounds stellar. Switching from normal to tweed offers a bump in volume and treble with just enough hair. Good for a solo voice in a blues tune. When OD is added to either front end I have a wonderful dumbly thing going on. PAB is most pronounced with the normal frontend. Not much volume boost available to the tweed side as I run the tone knob at 2 o'clock. The tweed side is much hotter than the normal side - ME LIKEY. With my "gig" setting the 2 fronts add a very usable and flexible stepping of volume in this order. Normal/tweed/tweedPAB/normalPAB/normalPAB+OD/tweedPAB+OD. Now, if the mid boost was on the foot pedal too - mucho more permutations
My favorite setting on the amp for my strat is to set the tweed front for breakup when pushed with hard picking. At this setting the tweed volume dwarfs the the normal front a bit. I cut my teeth with - and gigged for years with a tweed deluxe and tweed bassman. I love that sound too!!!! Sold my 2 champs to to James Werner in the seventies -then the bassman to him in the eighties. A great friend got the Deluxe. With this amp - I don't miss them anymore. I may have to get muchxs to build me a red 4 x 10 cab though....
Here's a pic of me and ol' yeller from 1979?? And my new main squeeze 30 years later....

Re: Tweed tones with a D-tone spin
I am loving that sound! Great job on the amp Henry and excellent playing there Dave. The other clips sound great too. What speaker was in the amp for that clip? Also for the the very first clip in the thread, what speaker was used and what guitar? I may be in the market for some speakers and was leaning to the Celestion G12-65 speaker, but now, I don't know...heisthl wrote:Dave (stelligan) sent me a new clip of this amp, Lead guitar was rosewood board Tele with Fender Vintage Noiseless bridge pickup. Re: Tweed tones with a D-tone spin
Unless Dave's been playing with screwdrivers again the last clip was with a Eminence RWB and the first clip in the thread was a TonkerLite.

**point of interest. Clip one & this most recent are permutations of the same song that I need to finish. Are you guys digging the swampy groove or the rocked up one? Thanks

Thanks Brian! Love the amp.odourboy wrote:Sounds just friggin' excellent Dave! Great job on the amp H2!
Here is a raggedy Strat & speaker test clip for amp. Amp is now in head cab - 2 identical TL boxes as shown above. First half of clip is EV12L second is TonkerLite in identical TL enclosure. Cad Trion Ribbon close mic'ed panned hard left, AT4040 condenser in room hard right.

*clips is long and clam-filled
Re: Tweed tones with a D-tone spin
Well that was one hell of a fine comparison. I won't say which I preferred (EV
) but it is totally consistent with my evaluation of the Tonkerlite.

Tweed Tones revisited. Telecaster, RedPlate tweed-like front end into the OD - no PAB. Line6/Keeley delay modeler in loop. G1265 reverb at mixdown. Damn I love this amp. Thanks Henry.....

Thanks for listening and for the compliment bigmik!
The amp has me playing my Fender guitars full time again. Feels like home.
