We have already posted in other threads that Keith Urban bought one of John Mayer's Dumbles because John told him why do you pay thousands on guitars but go with cheap amps; Keith took the bait and now running through that Dumble.

Sorry to rehash the thread, but does anyone know, or can tell by the photo, what type of circuit that the amp is running? Kind of new to the Dumble differentiation game, but am wondering if someone can tell if it's a '70s, '80s, or '90s type? What is the "Accent" switch? Does it help you change between American and British blues (bad joke)?

Accent switch is negative feed back (NFB).

That switch adds a cap on the NFB, such that the highs in the poweramp are more prominent. It is like a presence switch.

That amp is built in a time when Mr. Dumble was doing the socalled 3rd generation ODS. But it could have been upgraded to a later version, so who knows.

I have a 3rd gen combo that I built that is my personal amp. It takes a good fist full of bills to persuade me to sell it.

That amp sounds great!

He emotes sheer joy at playing! It's written all over his face, he clearly enjoys playing through that amp. Very 8)

One thing I noticed while pausing the rig rundown to steal the settings is that the 3rd generation amp is set to jazz mode. Interesting for a guy that likes twang.

Just to avoid misunderstandings:

The "silverface" Dumble ODS shown in this thread (opening post and Premier Guitar video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iFMboOeqIFM#t=12 at 31:23) isn't what I call a "3rd generation ODS" but a version of what I call a "transition generation ODS":
In more than 50% of the never updated and still all original ODS chassis with the 3rd generation look you'll find the "pre-standard" OD circuit and the version of the "pre-classic" tone stack with a CTS 250K treble pot and only one capacitor soldered to the bass pot and Tandy Wire RG59/U foam coax cables (and no longer the Colombia Flexfoam coax cables): https://tubeamparchive.com/download/file.php?id=14344

In more than 50% of the never updated and still all original ODS chassis with the "transition generation" look you'll find a "standard" OD circuit, a "classic" tone stack and a "low plate" configuration similar to the circuit shown in this layout (but some with still an accent switch and without a PB relay): https://tubeamparchive.com/download/file.php?id=14346"

Source: https://tubeamparchive.com/viewtopic.ph ... 431#237431
I've attached a picture from the time this ODS was for sale (a picture of the back you'll find at the same source: http://www.vintageandrare.com/product/D ... 1989-23392) and a picture of Tom Verlaine on stage with this ODS.

BTW: AFAIU what's told in the video M Fowler posted Keith Urban reportedly likes his "transition generation ODS" better than his "5th generation ODS".

Cheers,

Max

Find it interesting that the OD controls on SF dumble are OFF! Using just clean channel!
