Indeed he sounded very very similar through the Dr Z EZG and Z 4x10 a couple of years ago which is a Fender AB763 circuit. Matt is always in search of that last 0.1% though.
I am surprised that it seems not many here use a 4X10 cab.. In certain situations I prefer my Marshall 4X10 cab.. Like Andy said tighter punchier and a deep bottom..I get a larger stage splash and don't have to crank the amp as loud to get it to respond.. For me in certain situations I prefer a pedal over the OD in the amp (especially when vol is a concern) I can also control the OD tone with my pedal :D

4x10 Marshall "bayonet" was Lowell George's preferred cabinet with his dumble.

Hey Darin
That's a 102 circuit, I'll also use a 2nd gen 100w on occasion. :D

I didn't know that thanks..I've been studying some of Lowell's slide work lately (Band wants to do some Feat) My 4x10 Marshall and 2nd Gen is a wonderful tone for slide....No wonder..

Could be the influence of the Builders Guild now.

But, despite nice right angle bends in wires which does nothing but look nice,
it is a tidy build.

I am surprised however at the OT secondaries passing right over the primaries to the power tubes.
Not sure if that is desirable.

I had the chance to play through a couple of new Trocks last week. I was disappointed in a big way. They were both single channel amps, but the fenders that were sitting next to them (Production) killed them for cleans IMO, and the overdrive that you could get was not very Dumble like at all. (To their credit, maybe its not suppose to be) The reverb was average at best as well. This is coming from a guy who loves most Trocks. The amp was very dark and murky, even with the bright switch on. It was through a 2/12 TwoRock cab. I think one was the "Studio 35", and I cant remember what the other was. Neither were amps I would care to own at all.

I had the same reaction to a Classic Recerb that I picked a while back. It was way too dark and "woofy". It was nowhere near as fun to play as the clean channel of my Emerald Pro. I think that they went a bit too far with their "full bandwidth" output transformers. It really wasn't an enjoyable amp to play (I was using a TR 2x12 with G1265s

Glad its not just me. :) Man, the Emmy is easily one of my favorite all time amps. At some point I will own another. Its the smoothest amp I have ever played, and the cleans and reverb are both fantastic as well. Emerald pros put a smile on my face every time I plug in. Just do not be fooled into believing that the"Topaz" is the same amp. I downright hate them. Fuzzy dead sounding amps. I just played one of them again a few weeks back. UGGH!!!!

Please guys...check out this video. After this thread encouraged me to check out more of Schofields work, I found out that he is playing in Boston next month, so I got tickets..So I've been listening to some youtube stuff, and came across this clip.

Holy mother of god, this is one of the best Little Wing's I've ever heard. Great playing from Tomo, who lives in the next town over from me, and now I finally get to hear Eric Gales, who I think is another Two Rock artist.

GREAT playing by all three of them.

No, just all strat!! I really like the really groovy twang that Tomo throws in there, Tomo literally lives like 10 miles away, he's a professor at Berkeley in Boston. Schofield is just amazing, I can't believe how fast he gets his hand moving at the solo at the end.

I keep calling him the british Bonamassa, even though they sound nothing alike, some of the runs kind of remind me of Joe B.

Does anyone know if Schofield claims influence from Eric Johnson? I know Bonamassa does, I'm curious because it seems they run in some of the same crowds.

Not sure. He seems to run a heavier filter on his influences when he plays than Bonamassa to my ears. I like Schofield's playing a lot. That fat strat thing is right up my alley, and his note choice and phrasing here are really close to what I hear in my head over those progressions. I love how he lays back behind a bit and gives everything a little push.

Great player and a really nice guy. Seen him play and met him quite a few times and he is awesome!. Has very much his own sound. Never a bad tone and always plays with great taste and flair. A must see live artist.

Holy mother of god, this is one of the best Little Wing's I've ever heard. ...
I'll offer a differing opinion. I say the following at the risk of coming off as a completely ornary old bastard. My impression is that Little Wing was recorded right the first time. Even though Jimi changed that song several times before the first recording was done. Jimi's recorded version is a masterpiece and it's HIS. This live version(or any other version), not so much. Doing Little Wing in this way is just so overdone, predictable, and unartistic. It's like making your own copy of the Mona Lisa. Well making your own copy could be very educational, but why show it in public? The solos are vanilla. Kinda like OK it's your turn for sloppy seconds, thirds, fourths, etc... If I was stuck onstage for that song and someone passed me that solo slot, I am pretty sure I would decline. What else could or should be added to a masterpiece? Maybe the problem is that I've heard so MANY versions of this song - all of which fall short of the original. It's a great song, worth learning for so many reasons - chordal/lead combined approach, melody, chord changes, tone, lyrical poetry, dynamics. But it is a unique and original artistic statement. Once you learn it in the privacy of your own home, never play it in public. It is one of those songs that you can't make your own. At least I've never heard anyone successfully make it their own. It's a form of desecration IMO.

In the posted version, the guitar tones are very good. Nice tones and clean playing throughout - for sure. Overall, it just sounds like a rehash and that someone made a bad, on-the-spot song choice. Tomo and Matt don't look happy at all about the situation to me, but they made the best of a bad situation IMO.

With all due respect to everyone that loves that video or any other cover of Little Wing.
OK, flame on :P
