I have never seen an "A" pot to be anything other than Audio over here. (London & Frankfurt)
But I sure get wondering when I see the "L" suffix in a schematic. What's that supposed to communicate - Log or Lin? It gets me trying out both to see what I like. :)

DIY 30% pot

Haven't tried this out, but it looks like you can tailor make you own preferred taper characteristic:

You can turn a liniar pot into a LOG or even Reverse Log

This German company sells 30% Taper CTS Pots, only in 250K and 500K values though. Not cheap!!

I've got a pair in my guitar, they are nice - smooth action. Don't think I can justify buying more for the amp though.
