Re: New ODS 100W build with pictures...
For some reason only half of these uploaded and there were duplicates. I will try to fix it tomorrow.
Re: New ODS 100W build with pictures...
Tweaking Summary:
1) 350K OD trimmer adjusted to 50k from ground
2) 4.7uf cap on V2 (instead of 1.0 Ceriatone value)
3) Hand picked V2 tube (RCA)
4) Sylvainia 6L6CGs 35-38ma (non-matched tubes)
5) Open back Celestion Modern Lead 70 speaker
6) 1972 Les Paul Custom with Gibson PAF style pickups
Here is a track with all the above. I'm happy! If I had paid $4,000 for this amp I'd be happy.

Where to go from here? I can always try to find a 'better' 12AX7 or 'better' output tubes. I can try to find a 'better' soundiing guitar (I have 23 electrics to choose from
) and I can try to find a 'better' sounding speaker.
In terms of the circuitry, I probably won't change anything. I have the components to make it a 100k amp, but I re-read some of the important "100k" threads and I think I'll stay where I am as I am not in a band now, and mostly do home recording.

Really cool! Unbelievable attention to detail dude.
Where to go from here? Try an HRM build or two. A high-plate non-HRM is a thing of beauty as well!

Sounds great, exactly how I like my amp's OD to sound.
Explain to me why no one ever records a clean clip? To me the clean tone of these amps is just as important as the OD tone. I'll bet it's just beautiful.

I agree 100%Bob-I wrote:Sounds great, exactly how I like my amp's OD to sound.

I want to say a few things about the 'clean' on this amp.
First, this amp has the best clean of any amp I own. I did record the clean on one of the prior mp3s. I also read that 100k values on V1 may give better clean, but since this amp is already better than any I have I am going to keep myself from messing with V1 values so I don't screw it up.
One thing, though, is that with my Les Pauls, I need the 'bright' on for a good clean and OFF for a good OD sound. I know one can rig some foot switch for this, but since I don't play out, I can just reach over and flick the switch. This last mp3, the amp was on the floor and I could not get to the switch. In retrospect I did notice that on the fade out the clean without the 'bright' seems to sound pretty good. So, I guess I'm still figuring out what this amp will do.
Personally I never cared much for amps with a good 'clean' because it did not suit my style. Will it is a catch 22, because now I see, after 25 years of playing, I never had an amp with a really good clean channel. So this is opening up a whole realm for me. Now I need to go through those 23 guitars and see which have the best clean sound with this amp. Just off hand I am thinking the Gretsch Tennessean and Fender Coronado might be good. ( I don't play these two much because they don't sound that great with the high-gain Mesa amps).
If I get some killer clean tones I'll post the mp3.
Re: New ODS 100W build with pictures...
Also, thanks everyone for the compliments and for all the posts on this and the myriad of other threads that gave me the know-how to complete this project.
What I want to do is get a few good MP3s and post them with my schematic and some 'guts' pictures all together in the 'Dumble Files' section to give back something to the Amp Garage.

Can you elaborate more on this tweak?ic-racer wrote:Tweaking Summary:

What is different now from the 1.0 value?
Thanks
