Chassis strap screws

Post by tonelab2 »

The standard fender chassis strap screws are 3" long and fine for fender type chassis but are a bit short for my d clone build (chassis is 2 1/4" and timber 3/4"). :( What is everyone using on their builds? Anything longer than 3" is almost imposible to find, except for wood screws :?
thanks

Next time you are in the hardware store, check out the pre-packaged toggle screws. I think you'll be able to find the length you need. Throw away the toggle and find nuts to fit.

warning! rant to follow.
that's the problem with the home depot-izing of america. small, independent hardware stores are all but extinct. those stores carried all kinds of unusal partz because someday someone might need it. if they didn't have, they'd order it for you. the proprietor probably even knew something about hardware. try going into lowes and asking them to order some 5" #8x32 screws with oval philips heads, preferably stainless steel and see what response you get. in my town there were 2 independent hardware stores. one is now closed. the other survived by joining the pal franchise. i try to give them as much of my business as i can otherwise i'll be at the mercy of lowes and hd.
end rant.

Check www.boltdepot.com where you will find some longer than 3" machine screws.

No problem. I stumbled on it kind of recently myself, after years of having to go to several different hardware stores to get what I needed. :)
