50 watt amp build pic

Post by tubedogsmith »

I built this in a TW style chassis that I stripped down to the Trannies and output tube sockets. It's pretty much got everything but the FET circuit and bright switch. Both power supplies, rectifier and choke resistor on one board. I have some of those big four lug trim pots that have been laying around forever used up in this thing. It came out great and fired right up. It has a "brown" sound that is very cool. 100k plates and 10uf caps on the first tube. Very quiet too which surprised me considering the sloppy wiring and the way everything is shoe horned in.

It turned out nice! I'm doing something similar with my build which is progressing at a snail's pace.

What plate values did you use on V2?

Nice Build....I am sure the amp sounds good..Just a suggestion here take it or leave it ...I've found that amps tonally seem to respond better when you use the same cap throughout.. I know it's nit-pickin and used to do it myself in some of my older designs... When I get those amps back I replace them with the same cap and to me find it to be an improvement.. Enter the Mojo factor... Like I said just me.....Again nice build

The iron is a TW clone PT and a plexi clone OT. As far as caps, I've spent a lot of time trying different caps in different places and use what sounds best to me for what I'm trying to do.

Funny cauz I've found that each section responds differently. I mix and match as I go. Also, as of late I've seen some pretty poor sounding 6PS caps. One of my builds just wasn't getting the sound so I started swapping components, a pair of .1uF 6PS were swapped for a pair of xicon MPP's and it came alive. They measured very close. I even tried the 6PS in different locations and nothing sounded good. Bad batch?

Back on topic, excellent looking build.
