Yes, that's his original SSS. Word is he had trouble with it, and trouble with HAD so he sold it. He's back to using one again so who knows the true story. On the video he has a segment on his rig where he talks about the SSS giving him a "Crunch" tone. The Twins are the clean, Marshall the singing sustain.

SSS for the crunch? Isn'it supposed to be a deadly clean loud amp?Bob-I wrote:Yes, that's his original SSS. Word is he had trouble with it, and trouble with HAD so he sold it. Love the look of the amp anyway, it's classy!

He used a Tube Screamer, Fuzz Face and MXR digital delay in front of the SSS. Reportedly, the TS was on almost all the time, the FF was used on his Hendrix tunes. The opening chords of "Off My Mind" are his SSS, as is the chicken-pickin' section of "Zap" right after the speedy intro riff.massygt6 wrote: SSS for the crunch? He supposedly also used an ODS for lead on occasion during the "Tones" era, specifically "Zap".

Originally, two tube screamers...one on all the time (not on his pedalboard) and the other (on the board) switched on for an alternate lead tone. Amp is clean, clean, clean without something to push it into distortion.stumpydj wrote:He used a Tube Screamer, Fuzz Face and MXR digital delay in front of the SSS. I heard he did try it again and decided against going back to using it as, once the PT had been replaced by HAD, it never sounded the same as it did before it blew. B+ issue maybe? Anyway, he's still using a 50-watt Marshall with 6L6s for crunch/rythm and one of two 100-watters for lead...at least in the studio. Live he's been using one of the Jimi Hendrix amps, among others.
