best sounding OT for a 50W ODS clone (2 x 6L6)
I'm going to build a ODS 124 clone with 2x6L6 output section.
I have read some old posts about transformer choice but I got very different opinions and I'm a little bit confused.
So my question is very simple: what's the best sounding OT for a 50W ODS clone (2 x 6L6)?

Fender Bassman is the standard so use that or something better like a Mercury equivalent. My favorite for cheap is the Prosonic that Angela Instruments sells.

Thanks for your reply but I would like a more detailed answer, I know that for a 2x6L6 OT I should go for a bassman like OT, but the problem is that if I look for bassman MM OT, I have about 15 toneclone models and 5 axiom models.
Which one should I go for?!

Axiom OT F135B-O Late '70s Silverface -- #013691 is probably their best offering. When you call them make sure you can get one with multiple output taps (4,8 and either 16 or 2).

Just something else to think about is a Twin OT. It works real nice with a 50 watt amp into an 8 ohm speaker.

I think your asking about best, not just what works.
Thats easy. hands down dynaco iron (A 470 I recall). triode electronics.

I don't know if Brandon is still selling them, but I installed one of his OT's in my D'Lite and was surprised at the difference over the stock OT. The stock OT was very sweet sounding, and good in its own right, but Brandon's has a certain impact and clarity to the tone. I would consider it, too.

I had a look again to old OT posts and Brandon (or Funkali...) himself seems to recommend MM Axion dynaco OT DO50 for best results... just a little bit expansive, I should have bought it some months ago when we could change USD dollars with popcorns

+1 on that. I just installed one of these in my Bassman 10 ODS conversion. It made a significant change for me. Although the original OT in mine sounded OK, it just looked very small for a 50w amp. Since the swap, it has really opened up the amp. Thanks for the advice Henry! My favorite for cheap is the Prosonic that Angela Instruments sells

I contacted Patrick from Mercury Magnetics and this is his feedback:
"The FO50BM-16 has a different primary impedance and also a nicer interleave which gives a bit sweeter tone.
If this were the 100, the DO-100 would be great, but for a 50 watt, the FO50BM-16 is the way to go IMHO"
