I know, it's more of an aesthetic thing, but what are folks' preferred tube sockets?
I'm looking at the Angela Instruments ceramic octals (mount from below chassis). They look VERY nice. But what are you folks' preferred noval sockets? I have some of the inexpensive (cheap?) Chinese ceramics and some (okay, I'll say it) cheap black plastic ones. Angela also has some "brown Micanol" ones that I've used before with good success for $7 each. Aesthetically, I'd prefer to have ceramic sockets across the amp, but quality means more than aesthetics - no matter what Billy Crystal's "Fernando" would say!

The cheap Chinese ceramics have some pretty flimsy pin contacts. I wonder how they'll hold up over time? For octals, I've been using Belton. For 9-pins, I just ordered some phenolics with steel sheilds from Antique Electronics. Kinda pricey at $7 a pop. I'll let you know how they work out.

I've got many of these and I've only broken one pin. Since I constantly tweak I never wrap the wire around the pin, I just bend it 90 degrees and solder it in so it's easy to remove.Normster wrote:The cheap Chinese ceramics have some pretty flimsy pin contacts. I bought some Russian mil-spec surplus off of ebay from a guy in the UK (but they shipped from the Ukraine). I like them except that they seem to be metric diameters, at least the don't fit snugly in any of the holes I can punch with my set of greenlee punches.
I'd love to know what brand komet uses.
