Gil,
Sorry the post is late, but your recent amp looks very professional, great craftsmanship. Bob

Would anybody recommend Welwyb resistors? They seem to be about the same spec as Dale - i think ....

We have Welwyn here .... no Dales.

Gil,

BTW, liked your soldering and layout/wiring of the board - it's very clean. Wish I knew how the rest of your amp looks like ... so that I can use it as a standard and refine my work towards that.

Have you seen TR amps. From the pics on net, it seems they have very short wiring - the leads on the components are almost snipped off.

Cheers.

If you email me at gil_ayan@yahoo.com telling me what part of the amp you'd like to see a picture of, I will gladly send you one.

I have seen a number of amps, and have even worked on a couple of them at the manufacturer's request. Coincidentally, one of those cases was Two Rock. The amp I worked on had very short wires, which made the repair more diffult in my case -- I was asked to reverse two wires on a pot, which had been connected backwards at the factory, and it was almost impossible to do so because there wasn't any extra length on them.

Provided the amps are built to last for a long time without the need to change anything, that approach may be a a good idea. On the other hand, I have generous service loops in all of my wiring, and as fas as I've observed, so did Dumble. Of course, he gooped the preamp board, so servicing that area of the amp is probably a nightmare anyway, regardless of the lenghts of the leads. :)

Regarding the two rocks ... I'm just wondering why it is done so ... could it be that the leads tend to be antennas and also pick up RF, so the leads are kept as short as possible?

You've got mail on the pics.

Mike: I suppose that question can only be properly answered by the TR folks themselves, but I suspect your assumtion is correct. However, I have found the Dumble design and layout to be very stable, and I really set out to copy that instead of trying to make any "improvements" to it. I figured there must have been a reason behind Dumble's choice of layout and I went with it. Perhaps these departures from the original design are what cause the sound of some clones to deviate from the Dumble benchmark tone as well.

the 225's are the cheaper polyester Odrops, I like the 716 ODrops they're an ugraded 715 ODrop, polyester with copper lead instead of steel ones.
