Nine Lives.... not just for cats

Post by glasman »

Here are few pictures of an amp that is on it third major rebuild. Idid this for a local pro who has been borrowing the amp the last couple of years. The TW version was a little over the top for him.

PlexiVerb - Marhshall/Bassman with Reverb. With .25" plexi glass board.

SuperChief - Trainwreck style

Classic Overdrive - Dr. Dumbles basic idea with more crunch but still sings like a tweety bird.

How many lives has your amp had? Lets see the pictures.

I can usually tell how many lives my amps have had by how much the heater wires have been scorched...and of course almost all of them have stripped out screw holes for the back panel.

Yup, the screw holes are pretty normal. Here is a quick fix, Break a toothpick off in the hole this will take up some od the space allow the screw to tighten. That normall fixes them for me :).

Mine looks like swiss cheeze. I started trying to reinvent the wheel and so far it still's a mess. Anyway, better than last year.

I swear Gary, I take apart one of my amps and I've got about 6-8 'half-toothpicks' lying on the floor. I find half-toothpicks all over the place when I'm cleaning up my bench area (which happens like...once a year). I like those 'Deluxe' toothpicks that have the little knurled handled at one end.

This amp got its first outting on Sunday night. The guy who has been borrowing it was grinning from ear to ear. I was grinning from ear to ear. Really did sound good. I guess I will not see it again until it does something funny.

Had one guy offer to buy it on the spot. Sorry not for sale :).

OK Gary, This is as close as I can get right now. The two chassis tops leaning against the anvil are 1/8" thick and used to fit on a combination of 1/8" L channel (2.375X.75") bolted to 1/2" thick aluminum plate stock. The same "L's" and a different top are in the Marshalloid in the next pic. I used a piece of aluminum flashing over the face to keep the extra holes from showing under the graphics.

I turns out my wife has high levels of aluminum in her system (probably from farm chemicals) so I have sworn-off chassis making. It makes things harder but still do-able.
