OD Snubber values
What are the "Tweaked" values for the V2 snubbers in the Hybrid A? What does increasing or decreasing the values do tonally?
Re: OD Snubber values
I fully expect Dogears and Funkalicious to jump on this, but I've noticed that with higher values you get a smoother OD, but sacrifice top end. I have 390pF on my Bassman and it has very thick smooth tone. My latest build, which is much closer to a Dumble layout, uses 270pF and has a far more biting tone, but also lots of top end. There are, of course, lots of other things that contribute to the tone.
Re: OD Snubber values
The key is to listen to the amp and make a decision based on what you hear. I have 390pF on my 20 watt version, but the 50 watter took 490pF to get the same level of cream.

Thanks guys,
Has anyone experimented with maybe larger on v2a and smaller on v2b and vice versa? I wonder how this affects bite vs. smoothness? As I understand it , the first Od triode is where the even order "sweet" harmonics are. I was thinking 270-330pF on v2a then 390 on v2b maybe.......

Hi
Hybrid A, is that the one with the 350pf in both places?
I'm at 390pf for both but may try a little more, like 470.
My understanding is, at some point too large and you loose a little too much of the high end sparkle.
Havn't tryed different vals in each place, sounds interesting. I may have to try it.

Re: OD Snubber values
Every amp is different. Different iron, voltages, lead dress, tolerances... On top of that, every player has a different axe, touch, speakers, cab, etc....
The value you choose is what works best for you.
I prefer something in the 390pf range...usually. Occasionally the amp tells me it wants 470pf. Sometimes I use a post OD treble bleed with an adjusment pot on the back panel. That really works great!!!

Re: OD Snubber values
Not sure if there are any merits to mellowing out the high end more in the eairlyer stage vs the later, guess I should try it. (?) or is this just splitting hairs?Has anyone experimented with maybe larger on v2a and smaller on v2b and vice versa?

Re: OD Snubber values
It makes difference! Rolling off highs in the earlier stages gives more of a fuzz sound, think when you roll off with the tone pot on the guitar...Pete wrote: Not sure if there are any merits to mellowing out the high end more in the eairlyer stage vs the later, guess I should try it. More highs into the last stage gives more of a glassy/crunchy sound, think JCM800s...
I prefer 470p on v2a and 100p on v2b, it has the same overall freq response of a 250p pair but it sounds better to me.

Thanks for all the input guys,
I believe I'll start with 390's, and experiment from there....
