Who is just starting a ODS build?
I am. Going to do a 102 high plate skyline. Just looking for anyone to collaborate with. I have a chassis and many parts from previous work. This will be a long project for me. Hope I live through it.

Just start posting your questions and progress reports here.
Re: Who is just starting a ODS build?
hi churchman,
I built a #102 which is a great sounding amplifier, I certainly don't have Martin Manning's knowledge on the subject but I can share a little experience

I’ve got one started. I haven’t organized a thread specifically but have a couple of posts going in this section here and there.
I have a pile of scrap—- aka “vintage boutique amplifier components” in the garage that I’m trying to consolidate into working amps. I restored a Silvertone 1484 and a Magnatone 260a recently that have patiently waited for 25 years.
My ODS is not a strict replica. I’m building it on a WeberVST JM45 chassis that’s been several different experiments over the last 20-something years. I’m trying not to buy anything in the process.
I’m starting with a high-plate skyline with HRM. Built up the eyelet board from the templates in Manning’s excellent thread. Used caps and what not scavenged out of the last whatever I built before.
I’ve got a Marshall reissue JTM output transformer and a crappy New Sensor Bassman power transformer. Planning to run a pair of EL34 and halve the output impedance of the JTM45 OPT, since 7.2K ohms sounds like poo with 6L6’s IMO and 3600 ohms is close enough for the EL34.
Running the relay logic at 5v using the rectifier filament winding.
I drilled the chassis for 8 knobs yesterday. Working on the fitment and placement of boards and parts.
I don’t think it will take long once everything has a place to go and some screw holes drilled. Fidgeting everything around takes more time than getting an amp running.

Well, I have some military elco, nickel plated minitures, I have some Millen Octals. They will need a different wavy washer mounting plate to orient they octal. Ordered, P-SH12-1-31. Birthcher tube retainer, 926-c, overkill I know. I bought the chassis from Amplified Nation, decent chassis. I have enough G-10 to do the preamp board. Will need the rest. I ordered the relay boards from Malaysia. I just don't want to complicate matters. I will have a few extras. I have turrets but will order eyelets.
So, How tall of standoffs? I don't see them on parts list.
Where do you source your G-10? I don't think hoffman has larger pieces. thought I saw it last week, but don't see it recently.
I guess that's first. Building the boards. Thanks for the templates!

McMaster-Carr sells G10 in various thicknesses and sizes. I would go with 1/16" thickness and use 0.090" length eyelets.
Re: Who is just starting a ODS build?
I'm gathering parts for what will most likely be a Bluesmaster. I've already built amps based on 102, 124, 183 & SSS so a Bluesmaster just makes sense. Resistors will be primarily NOS but the rest of the amp will be current production components & tubes. I've got 2 chassis to choose from, a Black ODS from Taylor at AN or an 8 hole (4 preamp holes) from Erwin. A thread for this build was started but is probably on the 2nd or 3rd page of this forum by now.
IMHO Martin already gave you the best advice there is about just starting a build thread. Trying to build an amp and keep pace with someone, to me, would be difficult. We all build at our own pace and life, in general, can greatly affect that pace. I, for one, will attentively watch your build and perhaps post to it here and there.
Unfortunately I can't recall the standoff height I finally used. What I did was purchase a variety of lengths then once the boards were populated tried different ones while using a straightedge across the top of the chassis to check clearance. In hindsight a more economical solution would be just setting the populated board on the bottom of the chassis and use a straightedge and ruler to measure what would work.

Re: Who is just starting a ODS build?
Thanks Glenn,
This will be really slow for me. I have mounted the tube sockets, cut a piece of pre-amp board, brought in some relay boards. Going to order some G-10, eyelets. These amps aren't for the faint of heart. Lucky I have a house of amps, so this isn't a priority. It will keep you thinking. And with all the different versions, it's like what?
Anyway, it is the beginning.
Thanks all!

Re: Who is just starting a ODS build?
It's like an addiction LOL.
Actually its really cool. All I've really got now is #124 and the SSS. My teenage son claimed #183, for some reason he likes to crank up the EL34's
I'm still dialing in the SSS and #124 is in a back room of the house feeling neglected. In retrospect I built these too quickly and didn't spend the time needed to properly dial them in. That's what I've been doing lately, so the BluesMaster is taking a long time.
