Possibly for this circuit, but that speaker is amazing in different designs. As I said earlier in the thread, I am changing out speakers tomorrow for something that works better with this design.

i dont know any normal application of v30 except loud metal, where this speaker shines (tight bass, extended highs in drop tuned guitar) but must be loud. all other uses are painful , specialy on low volume where only irritant highs are coming out...

I’ve used them for years in countless recording sessions and tours. They were a go to for many of my friends that are first call touring and recording guitarists. It really comes down to application. I get that we are in a dumble forum and consequently much of the thought filters down from what works best with these types of design, and you don’t dig them. That’s cool.

Absolutely. It's been used for decades, originally in '80's rock, but works for a variety of music styles. A search will turn up many positive reviews.

V-30's are great speakers!..Some here don't like them combined with the Mid heavy Skyliner stack?

here we can discuss forever.. 8) . it is used by mistake IMO.. also my friend who was living in studio all his life with this speaker has permanent loss of hearing on the peak of v30 this curve.. for me disaster, but understood that many young generation starting with this one probably because of gain chasing and loud music where this one can be good ..after tryin all celeston, many eminence and many jensens..now im using mostly celestion cream and jensen c12q at home, very satisfied with both, specially jensen because of value

I don't associate celestions generally with the voice that dumbles have, except 65s and Sidewinder EV competition thingy from the 80s.

I have original 30s and they sound terrible with most amps. heh the 'reissue' things have extra whizzy nasal thing that hurts me.

I like EVs Boom-ba boom. That in a thiele pair or single is a thump pump.
Signatures have a 255 character limit that I could abuse, but I am not Cecil B. DeMille.

Yeah, I've run about 12 different speakers of 4 different brands with my D-type and have to say the best 2 are the EV in the Thiele cab and the G12-65, the latter now lives in the combo cab now and is getting broken in. Long list of speakers I thought sounded really bad with this amp.

I put 2 wgs et65 in my cab. Unfortunately didn’t have a chance to break them in, but will be using them this weekend.

For something completely different. :D V30s and a Pro Reverb. Oh yeah, and Lee Thorenberg.

I have a 1x12 w/ ET65 and it sounds great with everything I’ve thrown at it.

You did say you'd prefer more sag as opposed to stiffness you attributed to the ss rectifier and big OT.

Here's a thought. And I know this because I tried it on my Ceriatone 50 w Mayer. Lower the filter cap on the preamp to say 20uF. Better yet make em all 20uF. That would make the sound snappier.

Also +1 on the V30 it might be accentuating some frequencies adding unwanted peaks, plus they're really loud. Actually I believe this is your main prob.

I played the amp last night. Didn’t get to break the speakers in(brand new) but really enjoyed the show! I have to use a plexi shield for volume, and I use in ears, so there are always little things to learn and get around.

I’ve been describing the amp to my fellow players as the best twin ever. It is really clean, even when you turn the gain up. I love it! There is a part of me that wants a little more of that super reverb type juju. A part of my playing is that rhythm funkiness, Ala Jimi Hendrix or Stevie, and that is the one area where I wish there was 20% more sag. Maybe it is making the power supply less stiff. I would love to hear your amp. That said, the power in the low end, even when using my KOT pedal, is amazing. It has that single note clarity that reminds me of the EJ marshal lead sound, especially in the low end. My fuzz sounds weird. It was perfect for my other amp. It’s a Texas voodoo, and for some reason it loses clarity.
