John Mayer Sig Preamp Plate Voltage

Post by the_jessmo7 »

Hey guys! I’m doing a ton of reading and research as I look to get into amp building. I’m starting off small and building a JM preamp pedal. How do I find out on the schematic what the plate voltage should be on each preamp tube?

I’m looking at building a full tube preamp (reverb included!) and know this is WAY too advanced for a first project, but I’d gladly fail 100 times if I need to before I make it work.

Thanks everyone for your help and answering this newbie’s questions!

Check the layout for voltages. You should build what interests you, but in my opinion a preamp pedal is not going to be in the same ballpark. A significant part of this amp is the 100 watts of clean power. The master volume is great on this amp don't let 100W scare you. My 2x 6v6 plexi amp is louder and harsher on my ears than this amp at 75% master volume. Best of luck!

Hey Dan! Thanks for your reply. Yeah, I agree the full amp would definitely be better, but my playing situation is silent stages. I could to the whole reactive load thing and what not, but I figured I’d try this first with power amp and cab sim. If it sounds like dookie, I’m sure I’ll build the full amp shortly after! Lol.

I’m looking at The Tone Geek’s layout but don’t see the voltages listed anywhere on there. Is there a layout that lists the voltages?

This thread has Taylor's original layout with the voltages.
