Question about Reverb Circuit in a 2014 Amplified Nation Dirty Wonderland

Post by NWForest »

Hey all. I was hoping I could ask all the knowlegeable people on this forum about the reverb circuit in the JM two rock style amps, in this case an early Dirty Mayor from Amplified Nation. Now renamed Dirty Wonderland.

The reverb has a "reverb +" switch, and the reverb is really weak without the switch engaged. Also, as the send and return for the reverb is turned up, a lot of upper mids are introduced. Seems to thin out the amp and color the tone a lot. Is this a quirk of the circuit or is something weird going on? Tried new reverb driver tubes and reverb tank, didn't have an effect.

If it is just the circuit, are there any mods I could ask a tech to do to make the reverb color the base amp tone less? Currently I just leave the reverb off and use a reverb pedal. But these amps are known for their reverb and it feels like I'm missing out. Any input is really appreciated. Thanks!

I would reach out to Taylor directly. He is super helpful and is active on this forum.

Posting detailed gut-shots is the other option. This is super helpful for others to try and diagnose possible issues, but I would start with Taylor first.

Without knowing the circuit in question, there was a thread (https://ampgarage.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=34437) discussing changing the forum documented layout of the AN wonderland, where the reverb mixing resistor was changed from 120K to 220K. I made this change and the reverb definitely woke up!

Thank you for your input! I'll start with that reverb mixer first. Sounds like a good place to start. I'd love to post gut shots but I've never pulled a chassis before and I'm pretty weary of doing so without prior experience. It's a very early build so I'm sure Taylor's first layout should apply. I've emailed Taylor a little. Awesome guy to talk to, always super helpful. But I live across the country from him and he'd need to have the amp in person to really see what was going on with it.
