Blackface Dumble Overdrive Spotter's Guide
Just for fun I was trying to figure out characteristics to arrange the various blackface ODS chassis in some kind of chronological order. Ideally the original circuits can be linked to the outward apperance as more information is obtained.
This is just an ordered collection of some the photographs posted here:http://www.roblivesey.com/dumble/

The bottom one looks typical of powder coated chassis. Then the lettering is screen printed on top of that. Nice work, thanks.

Type 4 and 5 are the same era, that is a 3 piece chassis that screws together, and has wooden sides, Some have Impedance selectors(#184) and some do not. The front and back pannel are painted, and the little dots around the knobs are drilled.
The amp with the gold logo is later, SN# probably more into the 200's, he went back to the script logo.

Re: Blackface Dumble Overdrive Spotter's Guide
FWIW, there is no real link to the cosmetics and the circuit, many amps went back for updates, and I know for fact that there are later sn#'s built with earlier circuits, depending on what the customer asked for-

Thanks for the additional posts. So he went back to the script logo, as I can see. I will update the OP.
What do you all think about this one from http://homepage.mac.com/bill_jpn_morgan ... lbum3.html.
Looks like a plastic front plate that is cracked away.
Also, the chassis in the picture shows that (at least in that particular case) the face plate was put over a chassis with the little drilled holes for the knob position markers.

These are all reposts, but they will put all the Blackface Dumble Innard pictues together in the same thread. As far as I know this is all there is in the public domain. I wish I knew serial # for all these.
To be complete a link to #124 should be included. www.roblivesey.com/dumble.
If anyone has any other black face inside pictures please post!

I'd like to correct the information about this amp - #0155. I know the amp well and it belongs to a good friend of mine who has owned the amp for years now. The front panel is NOT plastic, what you see here is just paint flaking off the chassis. The front panel is just painted black. A few amps were made like this during this period and many of them suffer the same problem.
Cheers,
Rob.

Wow, thanks for the info, I will update things to reflect this. Anything else you know about the amp or its circuit or power supply?Rob Livesey wrote:Hi All,ic-racer wrote:Thanks for the additional posts. So he went back to the script logo, as I can see. I will update the OP.

Re: Blackface Dumble Overdrive Spotter's Guide
Here is another one that I found (#167) that has a different logo than the others in the original post. The yellow or gold "by Alexander Dumble" script is different than the others with the "LED" style lettering. I will have to squeeze it in.

I believe that the logo in these pics actually says 'By Howard Dumble'. Regardless though, this style is my personal favorite.ic-racer wrote:Here is another one that I found (#167) that has a different logo than the others in the original post.
