Finished D'Lite Combo with Effects Loop

Post by sst4270 »

Here are some pictures of my finished D'Lite with the Iron Sounds effects loop installed. Thanks again to the guys at Brownnote and everyone else who've helped me with my build...

I will be recording clips with it next weekend.

Enjoy,

Steve

Nice work sst4270!

I have a Ironsounds loop on order.
Did you assemble yours?
Did they provide any wire with it?

I see you didn't install the footswitch.
Do plan to?

BTW, how long did it take to get the loop in the mail?

Effects Loop

Post by sst4270 »

Structo,

Just got done playing around with the loop. It's definitely pretty quiet, and fairly transparent as well. I put a distortion pedal in the loop for kicks, one that I have used frequently, and that I am familiar with how it sounds when it's engaged. The loop did not appear to add any more noise or coloration to the amp's output than the pedal itself.

I bought the kit unassembled and did the assembly myself. It was extremely easy to build (relative to building an amplifier)

The kit came with shielded wire but does not come with power wire. You'll have to supply the wire from:
-2nd pwr supply filter to effects loop pwr supply
-From effects loop pwr supply to GND.
-3 wires from effect's loop pwr supply to effects loop board.

I am currently shopping for a reverb pedal. Verbzilla, Holy Grail, or RV5. Haven't decided yet.

I didn't put the foot switch in because I wanted it to be simple, but in hindsight I may do so because it would be nice to have the overdrive at the ready without having to walk back to the amp. Still undecided. Not sure I need it for what I plan to use this amp for. I truly love how quiet this amplifier is...

I bought the RV5 and after trying it in the front end it became clear that a loop is necessary.
I would have it set just right on clean then switch in OD and it became quite a different animal!
So yeah, I need the loop.
I plan on installing the footswitch mod but I'm still sorting through all the designs given.
Very confusing from my point of view.
Whether to go with 5v or 12v relays, whether or not to use a regulated power supply, what dropping resistors to use, etc....
I may have to redo my heater wires as well since I went the Marshall route and ran them at the back of the chassis.

Did you install the level trimmers or switches on your loop?

Trimmers or Switches

Post by sst4270 »

I used the switches and they work just fine.
If you go with trimmers you'd need to either stick a small screwdriver into the holes from the outside of the chassis to adjust them or else rig up some kind of shaft/knob to access them from the outside the chassis.

For gigging I wanted simple. True Bypass switch. Pad switch. Simple.

Can't comment on footswitch addition yet. If I choose to go that route I'll keep you posted on my progress.

You could use normal pots instead of the switches. It's been done.
