I have pretty much decided to build the D'Lite. The thing about the D'Lite is the schematic and layout are there and ready to go. I figure I can get it into my Bassman head in a very short period of time, then I can get a baseline for what it sounds like. I know that I'll be tearing it apart to try stuff anyway so I'm not expecting to build it and leave it. There's piles of great stuff to try and I have a fair bit of experience with electronics and amp building.
It's a win/win situation anyway, no matter which one I build one I should get great tone. I just love all of the clips that I've listened to, I find it kind of funny how people disect each sound clip. To me it's kind of like comparing beautiful women and critiquing their hair color. Why not have it all? Oh yeah, I'm married! Anyway, I can live with one woman and many amps but I'd have to put some thought into the opposite.
May I recommend the D'Lite 44 for your consideration.
You get the dual primary OT with 4k and 8k leads that will allow the simple conversion to 6V6 or 6L6 type tubes.
I wired mine to a DPDT switch so that with a flip of a switch and a simple re-bias I can swap flavors of output tubes.
This way there is no re-interpreting the impedance selector switch settings.
The dlite is a very nice circuit, and was my first dumble style build.
The ODS-101 non-HRM is my favorite so far of the schematics I have built. That said its only a couple of components different from the dlite, and the addition of a mid switch.
I am really starting to warm up to bassman iron, I really like it. The dynaco is a bit more full spectrum, bit more bassy and top end, but the bassman iron is right in that frequency range you want for guitar. The bassman iron is more focused, tighter, and has slightly more compression to my ears.
it really is a journey, and you just cant farm out the battle wounds
I'm encouraged by your comments, I probably would have asked about the Bassman iron sooner or later. I'm going to take a look for the ODS-101 non-HRM schematic so I can compare. I'm going to prepare for the build.
