6L6 DLite power - is 180ma enough?

Post by mlp-mx6 »

I know the BrownNote power xfmr puts out 300ma. What is the downside risk to using the standard Vibrolux power xfmr w/ 180ma? What is the upside to using the 300ma unit?

I am planning to use 6L6s, NOT 6V6s.
Wife: How many amps do you need?
Me: Just one more...

180ma ain't enough to drive a 6l6GC to full roar but Normster and others say that you get more head room and chime with them than with the 6v6s. I would worry more about the OT than the PT. On the other hand I just bought a pair of 6L6WGB. Anyway, it's a short bottle 25watt dissipation 6L6GC made for the military. I haven't tried them yet but I have a set of Mercury Vibrolux iron they are intended for.
