D'lite tone shaping mods?

Post by daz »

Hi all,
I'm wondering what would be some ways to get more bottom end Oomp out of my d'lite. To me stock the amp is very middy and would like more bottom end to it.
I'm using heyboer trannies, made to original brownnote specs (vibrolux OT).

I've tried the skyliner mids thing but didn't quite like what it did to the clean channel.

I'm also got 6l6 in there? What would be the change tonally and in the bottom end dept using 6v6?

Would I be better off using a OT with more iron, something bassman style. I was thinking of buying a Fender Prosonic OT to experiment.

If anything 6V6's will be more midrangy. Bigger iron helps, I have a Bassman xformer in a Dumble, it's fat and rich.

Since you want to only change the OD focus on V2 only. You can up the cathode bypass caps. You should have 5uF on all stages, up the OD stages to 10uF. The OD2 coupler is .0047uF, up that one to .01uF.

If you want to fatten up the entire amp you can up the final grid couplers from .022uF to .047 or even .1uF.

Ba careful and make only one change at a time. It's easy to make the bottom end mushy with too much bass.
