d'lite transformer options

Post by dragonbat13 »

Does anybody know of a cheaper than 200 dollar option for power and output transformers for a D'lite in a brown note chassis. I saw where an 18 watt heyboer output could be used and I may do that. I do have a stancor 800volt ct at 250ma with 5v and 6.3volt taps that would power the amp but I would not have the 50v bias supply. I would consider using that with a pair of 6l6s instead of 6v6s and figure up a stand alone bias supply. Anybody got any other ideas?

You can set yourself up with Bassman replacement iron (probably work okay with your D-Lite, but you're going to want to confirm the sepcs and mechanicals yourself) from Allen for about $150.

I used his stuff on a 50W D-clone project and it worked well for me (good service too).

The D'Lite chassis is sized to fit a variety of PT's...so you have options there.
You can take a bias tap off of the HV of any PT.
350v PT with an 18W OT running 6L6 is a good sounding combo.

Just want to say that I'm impressed that "brownnote" answered this question!

You have to watch it though on the Allen PT's... They are great transformers, but the TP40 is too big to fit the cutout in the D'Lite chassis. The TP40D will fit great though. :)

Heck I have a ftdo-59 output trans by mercury magnetics that should be able to support either 6v6 or 6l6 tubes. Maybe I should just use that. Its never been used. possibly with a pair of 6l6s with a 350-0-350 PT? I would loose the ability to use different speaker loads but That really doesnt matter anyway in my situtation.

I would recomend you use a bigger ot than that one. thats a tiny little tweed deluxe ot and i don't think you are going to be happy with it in this circuit. you want somthing at least vibrolux size or bigger.

My personal opinion is if you are going to run 6L6's to run a BF Bassman transformer. I've tried both the Vibrolux transformer and the Bassman size sounds better to my ears with 6L6's. Again, this is just my opinion. :)

yep i'd agree. use the vibrolux/18watt marshall sized frame trannie for 2 6v6's and the bassman sized trannie (also the same size as twreck output) for 2 6l6's. rh

the dynaco 470 ROCKS the WORLD of OT's for dumble clones!!!!!!

check out triode electronics for 90$.

I have switched to using dynaco's exclusively for my dumble style builds. Its what the man used, and if its good enough for HAD, its good enough for me. Plus it sounds the best.

This OT kicks the butt of all the other OT's I have in my 5 dumble clones.

Just finished a build with these from Antique Electronics and it sounds very nice.

Vibrolux Replacement #P-TF22723 $61.95

Generic Fender OT 2/4/8ohms #P-TF18343 $64.95

This was a 6V6 build, but I did a 6L6 HRM D'Lite with Power Tranny #P-TF22814 $64.95 - it sounds darn nice

See this thread for clip: https://tubeamparchive.com/viewtopic.php?t=3264

Happy soldering....

I've used the A470 with a dual 6550 with very good results (tops!), that should be good up to quad 6l6 as well, its overrated, but how much wattage you feed it does affect the response. At 35 watts the low end should be beefier than at 70 watts. I found the bass response at 70 watts to be better than any other OT I have in the box, and it is a fairly large box.

The larger model is A431s. I have not used it, but it should be very similar, probably with an even better bass end (though the bass response on the A470 is awesome). Its a bit more pricey though I suspect its as good as it gets. I would probably use the 431 on a bass amp, and I am happy with the 470 for guitar amps.

What model OT and PT Dynaco's do you recommend for a 50W ODS Build?
