I want to reiterate that the gentleman at the booth, if he is the owner, was very gracious and cool with us. At the time that the demos were offered, they may have thought they would be in a quiet room or area; as quiet as things get at NAMM. They may have requested a quiet area and the floor coordinator stuck them there.
Given the limitations of what we would be able to hear, our focus was really to get an idea of what The Real Thing actually sounds like so we would have a point of reference for how closely the different clones and variants nail the tone and vibe.
At this time, which Ceriatone model hits closest to one of the original Overdrive Specials?

Eddiehazelfan, yeah NAMM show can be a bit like the Guitar Center times 100 but I am glad you got to spend some time with the real deal. What I would do if I were you is check out the clips section to watch and listen to what the different circuits sound like. There is a wide range of different sounding amps and most of them are still considered Overdrive Specials. I think a non HRM 100w Skyliner gives you that nice honky Dumble sound but check the clips out and let your ears decide. Also you need to consider what type of guitar your are using. Dumble circuits tend to like humbucking type guitars more than single coils but there are some circuits that are better with Strats than others.

In electronics parlance, I believe they are called "test points"; very common in printed circuit boardsFUCHSAUDIO wrote:I believe the wire stuck out of the goop when the goop was present, for measurement/calbration purposes. I've seen that before.

test points
Valid point for sure, but with the ability to take a scope shot off plate right at tube, and another at entrance to OD level, seems Moot to me unless it`s for a different reason, i`ve had a private conversation w/a dumble owner that leads me to blv otherwise.. each to their own thoughts n observations, cause it sure looks like nothing more to me as well!jam-mill wrote:In electronics parlance, I believe they are called "test points"; very common in printed circuit boardsFUCHSAUDIO wrote:I believe the wire stuck out of the goop when the goop was present, for measurement/calbration purposes. Hey Parlance, comments like that are best reserved for people who actually don't know, like many found on TGP.jam-mill wrote:In electronics parlance, I believe they are called "test points"; very common in printed circuit boardsFUCHSAUDIO wrote:I believe the wire stuck out of the goop when the goop was present, for measurement/calbration purposes. Sorry, that you seemingly found the post offensive; the intent was to communicate for those here that really don't know all there is to know about electronics.Blackburn wrote:Hey Parlance, comments like that are best reserved for people who actually don't know, like many found on TGP.jam-mill wrote:In electronics parlance, I believe they are called "test points"; very common in printed circuit boardsFUCHSAUDIO wrote:I believe the wire stuck out of the goop when the goop was present, for measurement/calbration purposes. This is the guy you quoted and then proceeded to teach.
Re: So, I played a Dumble yesterday...
I know exactly who I quoted, thus the reason for the wink. Because I know he uses printed circuit boards in his amps. And, you've make a terrible assumption that I was trying to "teach" him.Blackburn wrote:http://www.fuchsaudiotechnology.com/jam-mill wrote:Sorry, that you seemingly found the post offensive; the intent was to communicate for those here that really don't know all there is to know about electronics.Blackburn wrote: Hey Parlance, comments like that are best reserved for people who actually don't know, like many found on TGP.

Again, sorry to offend you or anyone else by using common electronics terminology.

Jack, one of the thngs that differenciates this forum from others is that most of the posters are very experienced at what they do. Many make there living building amps. You will get a friendly jab every once in awhile and I say friendly because Blackurn's response did have a smiley face after it. Don't worry about it. I have seem what I consider trivial topics turn into fullblown internet throwdowns. They are kind of amussing to read but also a bit of a waste of soldering time.

No worries. We'll just blame Andy for using PCBs.
