Re: Kemper Profiling Amplifier
I think that amp is getting some pretty amazing tones & it seems to have some of the dynamics of what you'd hear in a tube amp.
Having said that, I liked the cleaner tones of the last U-toob real well. I thought the other videos were just OK.
However, the more "overdriven" it became, the less transparent and more distorted sounding it became to my ears. It sounded less overdriven and more distorted. I think it begins to add more distorted grit and less smooth overdrive when cranked, IMO.
I thought the guitar player was incredible.

Re: Kemper Profiling Amplifier
I'm generally a couple of years behind, sorry for the late post.
I just bought a KAP and am finding it to be pretty amazing. I'm a tube amp snob, hobby builder since 2002 and have 45 years playing experience. Paired with a Yamaha DXR10 it sounds just like my 102 and my 183 clone.
I'm looking for others on this site that have taken the KAP plunge.

Re: Kemper Profiling Amplifier
I bought one a while back. I ended up selling it because it just didn't "feel" good to me. The sound was nice, but the amp feel is important to me.

Also, I don't think digital will ever achieve the 'roll back the guitar volume' for a transition like what is available with a Trainwreck amp.
Here's why. You want to maximize the signal to make sure you are taking advantage of all 24 bits of dynamic range. Roll back the volume, you're using 18, 12, or 8 bits of dynamic range.
The other aspect is the Kempler doesn't model an amp. It models Amp-> Speaker-> Mic.
Emulation is like a Marilyn Monroe impersonator. No matter how good, it ain't Marilyn.
It's never too late to have a happy childhood.
Re: Kemper Profiling Amplifier
Whether or not the Kemper profiler is something you'd use depends a lot on your musical style and studio process.
My younger son is the lead engineer for a Studio in Scarborough (Toronto), and is signed to Sony records, and he has done work for Will.I.Am, Drake, P. Reign and others. He did the music and mixing for a song called Sela Sela, which was the official song of the African World Cup a couple of years ago:

He says the Kemper profiler is a big deal in the hip-hop/pop world. Every studio has one and there is a huge variety of profiles, but in his music style, touch sensitivity is not a concern - it's more about getting a guitar/amp sound that matches what's in the artist's head, at a minimum cost.
