If when I pop the OD relay board out on Thursday and something is wrong physically with the board I might as well use hoffman's as there are no proprietary connections on them, just eyelet to pin.
10thTx wrote: IF you did that & the problem was only the clean/OD relay board, then the issue would be resolved very easily. I typically get my parts from Hoffman within two days of ordering them.

Just another consideration.

With respect, 10thtx
I agree, and it is only the clean/od relay that is the issue.
You know, I really can't imagine that something is wrong with the current board unless a trace pulled up or like was mentioned before a piece of one of the resistor leads I cut lodged itself somewhere it shouldn't be.
I will find out on Thursday and post back.

It is a pain but it makes me learn something I might have missed otherwise

I highly recommend including the 1MA audio pot in the build.
That's so funny, I just saw a DIY version on a website while I was googling relay info yesterday. It shows how to use a .1 600v cap and a good size finishing nail and put it into a empty pen for writing. This is a good time to build one apparently, thanks.

Truth!!

Good luck,

My pleasure as always JC. Yes indeed...learning comes in many, many different ways if the mind is open to it. It is obvious that yours is!

If you operate under the "in for a penny....in for a pound" mode like I often do, consider something like this for the stethoscope.

As has been pointed out here at TAG, the 1M pot does parallel with what ever circuit you are inserting it into at the time. That may....or may not...produce an additional variable into the mix if you are chasing relatively subtle "issues".

I like the pot because I prefer to keep the listening amp volume and gain fixed solidly at the settings I desire. The signal amplitude from the test amp will vary wildly along the signal path from input to output. The pot allows you to easily adjust for that.

Hmmm...maybe a pot "lift" switch would provide the best of all worlds.

Rock on!

Could use a push pull pot to bypass maybe...if there is a 1 meg push pull pot out there

IT LIVES!!!!!!

I can only speculate that it was either a loose connection under the board or debris from another time because after I pulled the board and reworked the connections it is good to go as it was before.

I am so happy.

So to 10thTx,Structo,ToneMerc,amplifiednation,rogb,bluesfendermanblues,bcook,and ampgeek a huge thank you for sharring your time and expertise!

Just on aside, I just spent about an hour playing and again, with a LP with 57 and 57+ pups and I soooo much like the low plate. I'm looking forward to playing a strat into it, but I'm waiting for my '63 that is on loan to a friend to come back to take that maiden voyage.

Also ampgeek, made and used the audio probe today as well. Didn't have a pot for it, so just used a pocket amp clipped to my belt so I could bring the vol up or down easily. I can't wait to have another amp get a problem so I can use the probe...

Right on JC!! Glad to hear all is well. Enjoy that now healthy amp to the max.

Yep...if you remain active in this hobby, you will definitely find a use or two for that tool in the future.

Works great for tracing pedal builds too. There will come a time when you just can't decide on what amp to build next. But...you need to build something to get that "melting solder monkey" off of your back. Stomp boxes make an excellent substitute.....temporarily!!

That's a great idea! I cut my teeth on pedal mods and then vero board clones, so I do have some "children" that I couldn't get to work completely set aside in a crate. If nothing goes wrong with any amp over here in the next little bit I think I'll just go ahead and go after that crate!

Too cool of a tool very much a jewel,
thanks brother Dave!
